Ms Satanandan wrote: “Look at my face. REMEMBER ME when you think about allowing juveniles and youth out of custody to roam our streets instead of HOLDING THEM RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS.»

She added: » You might be reading an obituary today for me and my children. But instead I'm here. To write this… These criminals will not win. We need our city back. And this is not the last you hear from me about this.”

She went on to thank the «incredible officers of the 4th Precinct in Minneapolis, Mayor Frey, Chief O'Hare» for their assistance following the attack.

In 2020, after Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin brutally killed Mr. Floyd, Ms. Satanandan vowed to “dismantle” the police.

In a message published at the height of the Black movement Lives Question of protests, she wrote: “We are going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department. Say it with me.

“DISMANTLE […] the Minneapolis […] Police Department.”

She added: “As allies, what can we do right now? LISTEN and LEARN from our black brothers and sisters. And then REPLACE that message right now, in this moment.

“MPD is systematically failing the black community, they are failing ALL OF US. It's time to build new infrastructure that works for ALL communities. If you still don't agree with this BASIC FACT, I don't know what to tell you.»

DFL Chairman Ken Martin told local television station KSTP that he was «heartbroken» by news of the attack.

He said, «I sincerely hope that the people who attacked on Shivanthi will be swiftly brought to justice and given punishment commensurate with the gravity of their crimes.»

«My heart goes out to Shivanthi and her family and I hope they recover from such a horrific experience as quickly as possible.»< /p>

In the wake of Mr. Floyd's killing, campaigns to «protect» the police, shifting funds from law enforcement to other government agencies, were at their peak.

But Democrats turned away from those sentiments after they were accused of losses in a number of swing states in the 2020 election.

Across the country, cities that previously strained police resources, such as Minneapolis, have retreated in response to rising crime.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden tried to position himself as tough on crime, appealing to both moderates and progressives, supporting law enforcement reform but through reinvestment.

A 2022 Pew Research poll found that 47 percent Americans would like to see an increase in police spending, up from 31 percent in June 2020. Meanwhile, support for cutting police funding has fallen to 15 percent from 25 per cent in 2020.
