Donald Trump said the US economy was heading towards a “Great Depression” following the recession following the Wall Street crash.

Speech at a campaign rally in the southern US on Friday in Dakota Trump criticized Joe Biden's handling of the economy for the first time since he was charged with election fraud in Georgia last month.

“The fact is that we are probably heading towards the Great Depression. something I've never said publicly before,” he said.

“I'm saying this in your state. I hate to say that this is the state in which I have to say it, but you know, I don't think I've ever said it before.

«That's a damn statement and I hate making it.»

Mr Trump used previous campaign speeches to argue that the US economy was heading «towards something more than just a recession» and drew parallels to the 1930s in an online post in March.

Despite persistent inflation, however, Federal Reserve officials are increasingly confident that the U.S. can avoid a recession in 2023.

A Fed report released Wednesday said the U.S. economy is grew modestly in July and August, and the latest data released by the Labor Department on Thursday showed claims for unemployment benefits at their lowest level since February.

Banks and bank investors are warning the central bank against raising interest rates further to avoid a “hard landing,” when a period of economic growth is followed by a sharp contraction.

“In this election, the choice is between Biden's economic collapse — and it will happen, and it will happen. be ugly — or a Trump economic boom,” Trump said Friday.

“We had a boom like never before. It was the most successful economy in world history. Crooked Joe cares only about enriching his family. I'm making sure your family gets rich.»

The former president has previously distanced himself from Republican attacks on «woke ideology,» the main campaign strategy of his rival Ron DeSantis.

But during a rally in South Dakota, Trump used the same language, telling the crowd the US military was “woke” and had been “perverted” by Mr Biden.

“Under Joe Biden, Marxists, fascists and communists are not just tearing down statues . They are destroying our economy,” he said.

“They are destroying our borders, destroying our laws. They are robbing our middle class, maiming our children.

“[They] are desecrating our Constitution and perverting our military, and the army is waking up,” he said. “We defeated ISIS, and now it is awakening.”

Ahead of the rally, Trump's first in South Dakota since 2020, he received the endorsement of Kristi Noem, the state's governor.

The former president also confirmed he will participate in a televised debate with the Democratic nominee next year. , but last month defended his decision not to appear alongside candidates in the GOP primary.

He said he would not face «uncomfortable questions.» » from Fox News, which he called «somewhat of a hostile network.»

«What I'm really looking forward to is a debate about the Democrat, whoever he is,» he said.

' A big badge of honor.»

Trump allies told The Telegraph last month that Mr. Trump considered himself the undisputed «leader of the party» and would not argue with other Republicans during the primaries.

Mr. Trump also reiterated his claim that the four criminal charges against him were politically motivated, telling the crowd it was «an election stunt they are doing.»

“I consider it a great badge of honor, Yes,” he said.

“I was charged in your place. I'm not happy about this. But that's part of the job description, isn't it?»

He called the case against him «the most corrupt and egregious weaponization of law enforcement our country has ever seen.»

< p > “They do this for one reason: election interference,” he said. “Because these accusations bring bad publicity. My case is unusual, but perhaps at some point the situation will change.”

He added that he could do the same with his opponents if he wins the presidency again next year.

“This is a democrat blaming his opponent. Nobody has ever seen anything like this,” he said.

“That means if I win and someone wants to run against me, I will call my attorney general. I say, “Listen, charge him with income tax evasion.” You will understand it.»
