The mid-size truck was equipped with a plug-in hybrid power plant based on a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo-four. The new version will appear in early 2025.
The third generation Ford Ranger was created by the Australian office of Ford as part of a partnership agreement with the German concern Volkswagen: this mid-size pickup truck is the twin of the second generation VW Amarok. The presentation of the “American” took place at the end of November 2021, and the top version with the addition of Raptor to the name appeared in February 2022. Now the manufacturer is preparing a new version of the truck — with a plug-in hybrid installation.

So far, Ford has not declassified all the information about the future Ranger PHEV. It is known that production of a pickup truck with a new “filling” will start at the end of 2024, and such cars will reach dealers at the beginning of 2025. It is known that the hybrid installation is based on a motor already familiar to fans of the model — a 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo-four, which produces 273 hp without the electrical component.
At the same time, the American company is not yet ready to share information about which electric motor this turbo engine will work with in tandem, as well as what the total power of the hybrid system will be. Ford explained that the total plug-in hybrid system will produce “more torque than any other Ranger,” that is, the figure will exceed the 600 Nm of the 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel.
It is also unknown at the moment what capacity the battery included in this installation will have; however, it is reported that when driving on electric power alone, such an all-wheel drive mid-size pickup truck will be able to travel 45 km on a single charge. It is curious that the mileage indicator in purely “green” mode is the same for the front-wheel drive compact crossover Kuga PHEV, the system of which includes a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 14.4 kWh. Obviously, the battery of a heavier Ranger should have a higher capacity.
The Ford Ranger PHEV has an on-board Pro Power system, which includes several power outlets located on the back of the pickup truck, as well as inside the cabin. The manufacturer noted that the battery of the rechargeable hybrid is capable of providing power to “tools and household appliances both in the workplace and at a remote campsite” (thus acting as an electric generator).
A pickup truck with electrified technology has several visual differences from options with traditional internal combustion engines. The plug-in hybrid Ranger has a charging port on the rear fender (next to the fuel filler cap), «PHEV» lettering on the side trims, and 18-inch alloy wheels with a unique design. It is assumed that this version will have a standard interior, except that the virtual instrument panel may receive different graphics.
The company has officially confirmed that the rechargeable hybrid Ford Ranger will appear in Australia, the UK and a number of other European countries ; Later, the geography of the model can be expanded. It is not yet known whether the hybrid version will join the lineup of the related Volkswagen Amarok.
