The absence of camouflage film allowed photo spies to see an additional hatch on the side of the French crossover, behind which the port for charging the battery is hidden.
Renault presented its coupe-shaped crossover Rafale, declared the flagship of the brand, in June of this year: the premiere of the new product took place at the Le Bourget air show. By the way, it was not by chance that this place was chosen for the debut: the fact is that the name of this SUV was given in honor of the family of aircraft that was created in 1934 by the Caudron-Renault division.

The Rafale crossover is the closest relative of the Austral and the new Espace, all three models are based on the CMF C/D platform. The length of the new product is 4.71 meters, width – 1.86 meters, height – 1.61 meters, and the distance between the axles – 2.74 meters. The model's rated ground clearance is 180 mm.
Initially, it was known that the cross-coupe would receive only a hybrid “filling”, and two modifications were provided. The first E-Tech system, which the Renault Rafale debuted with, is also available on the Austral and Espace. It is based on a 130-horsepower 1.2-liter petrol turbo engine, which works in tandem with a starter-generator, a 70-hp electric motor, and also includes a modest-capacity battery of only 2 kWh. The total power of this system is 200 hp, the drive is front-wheel drive only.
Soon the base version will be joined by a second one – a rechargeable hybrid. Now the French are finishing a series of road tests of the future new product: colleagues from the Spanish publication Motor.es shared with us a portion of fresh spy shots. There is not a “shred” of camouflage film on the tested prototype, so photographers were able to capture without any problems the additional hatch behind which the battery charging port is hidden, located on the right side.
All details about the installation of the Renault Rafale PHEV will obviously be declassified as part of the debut. At the moment it is known that the total output of the plug-in hybrid system will be 300 hp. This crossover has full drive. There is no information yet on the capacity of the traction battery included in the kit. However, according to the publication, the range on one charge when driving purely on electric power should significantly exceed 40 km.
Judging by the pictures, there will be no differences in appearance between the different hybrid versions of the Rafale (except for the already indicated additional charging port). Most likely, there will also be minimal differences in the interior. Let us remind you that the top-spec Esprit Alpine cross-coupe was equipped with “sports” seats with more developed lateral support; Rafale was also the first to receive a multimedia system with a new operating system and modified graphics. The list of equipment includes adaptive cruise control, a set of all-round cameras, automatic braking and lane keeping systems.
According to the plan, the plug-in hybrid modification of the Renault Rafale should appear on the European market in 2024 year. Production will be established at the Renault plant, which is located in Palencia (Spain).
