The “traditional” flagship crossover of the Korean premium brand has been tweaked in appearance and given the interior. The Coupe version has a sportier image, in addition, only this SUV has an electrically aspirated V6 petrol turbo engine.
The three-row crossover Genesis GV80 has been in service since 2020; it heads the SUV line of Hyundai's premium sub-brand. The model is built on a rear-wheel drive platform, and some of its main competitors are the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. Soon after the launch of the “traditional” flagship crossover of the Genesis brand, rumors appeared that the Koreans were also preparing a coupe-like version that would compete with the BMW X6 and Mercedes GLE Coupe. This spring, the company confirmed this information by demonstrating a corresponding concept. Now the production Genesis GV80 Coupe has been declassified, and along with it a restyled “standard” crossover has been presented.

Externally, the commercial cross-coupe almost completely repeated its predecessor, except that the two-lane taillights were made separate, while the show car had solid lines. The differences between the Genesis GV80 Coupe and the three-row crossover, in addition to the silhouette, are the original design of the radiator grille, a more aggressive body kit and a large forked spoiler on the trunk door.

An ordinary SUV after restyling has acquired different bumpers, its grille now has a double mesh, and the headlights are made using MLA technology (Micro Lens Array; one block combines DRLs and low beam lamps, made according to the microlens mesh principle). The Genesis GV80 also received new design wheels, plus an expanded palette of body colors. Note that both modifications are equipped with 20- or 22-inch wheels (the GV80 Coupe wheels have their own design), but 19-inch wheels are the prerogative of the basic three-row crossover.

The length of the updated GV80 is 4940 mm, which is 5 mm less than the pre-reform model. The cross-coupe indicator is 4965 mm. And the Genesis GV80 Coupe is 5 mm lower than the standard SUV: 1710 versus 1715 mm. The width and wheelbase of the cars are the same — 1975 and 2955 mm, respectively. Alas, the brand does not provide trunk volume.

Inside, the Genesis GV80 and GV80 Coupe generally repeat each other, and the interior has been redone: instead of separate screens for the instrument panel and multimedia system, there is now a single 27-inch display; the steering wheel, pedals, climate control unit, gearshift and controller washers have also been replaced. Expensive materials are used in interior decoration — leather, natural wood and aluminum. As before, the “traditional” crossover comes with five, six or seven seats. “Coupe”, of course, has only a five-seater interior.

The list of equipment also includes ten airbags (including a central airbag that deploys between the driver and front passenger), a fingerprint authentication system, a heated armrest and many electronic assistants.
Updated Genesis GV80
The inline six-cylinder turbodiesel 3.0 (273 hp, 588 Nm) is excluded from the range — at least in Korea. The restyled Genesis GV80 will be offered with the same petrol turbo-four 2.5 T-GDI (304 hp, 422 Nm) and biturbo V6 3.5 T-GDI (380 hp, 530 Nm). The coupe-like GV80 Coupe will be available with the same engines, but in addition, like the Genesis G90 sedan, this cross will also have a petrol V6 3.5 T-GDI, equipped with a 48-volt e-S/C electric supercharger: the engine produces 415 hp. and 549 Nm. Other individual features of the coupe-shaped crossover are the Active Sound Design system, with which the GV80 Coupe can simulate the sound of an even more powerful engine, as well as the Flex Brake function, which allows you to adjust the responsiveness of the brake pedal.

There is only one gearbox — an eight-speed automatic. The three-row SUV has rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, while the coupe comes with all-wheel drive only. The GV80 Coupe with 3.5 T-GDI e-S/C has a special driving mode – Sport+, it is designed “for driving at the limit.”
On the home market, sales of the updated Genesis GV80 crossover and its coupe version is scheduled for October 11, prices have not yet been announced.
