The new SUV of the Bavarian brand will have versions with gasoline engines, plug-in hybrid units and only electric motors (the latter will have its own name ).
The Bavarian brand declassified the BMW X2 in the fall of 2017; this compact crossover is based on the concept of the same name, which was presented a year earlier at the Paris Motor Show. The model will soon change generation, and the next SUV will have a completely “green” version with a different name – BMW iX2. Now the manufacturer has decided to stir up the interest of fans of the brand and has published a teaser of the new product.
Next generation BMW X2 teaser
One image shows the silhouette of a crossover with a coupe-like body and a small spoiler adorning the rear. In the second teaser, you can partially see the “face” of the second-generation BMW X2: you can see stampings on the hood, traditional exterior mirrors, a pair of curved lines of LED running lights on each side, as well as an illuminated edging of the radiator grille in the form of branded recognizable “nostrils.”
Next generation BMW X2 teaser
So far, the Bavarians continue to keep the appearance of the next generation BMW X2 a secret, but last summer, photo spies managed to catch a camouflaged prototype of the new product during tests on public roads. Previously, we shared with readers this series of photographs in which the car is almost completely hidden using camouflage film (with the exception of the side mirrors and rims).

The front end of the new X2 will borrow heavily from the BMW X1 compact crossover, while the all-electric version will borrow from the iX1 (they debuted in early summer 2022). Judging by today's teaser, the shape of the radiator grille and hood of the new product will still be different, but the head optics may “move” in almost the same design.
Probably, in the interior of the next cross-coupe generation, like all modern cars of the Bavarian brand, a large curved display will be installed on the front panel, combining two screens — a virtual tidy and a touchscreen of the infotainment system.
Presumably related SUVs will share the engine range. Thus, the base for the current X1 is a 1.5-liter petrol turbo engine (136 hp and 230 Nm). Also in the lineup is a mild hybrid unit with a 2.0-liter turbo engine and a 48-volt starter-generator (218 hp and 360 Nm). The X-First also has a 2.0-liter diesel engine (150 hp and 360 Nm) and an MHEV system based on a 2.0-liter 197-horsepower engine (211 hp and 400 Nm) in its lineup. .
The X1 has a pair of plug-in hybrids. The first is based on a 1.5-liter engine, paired with a 109-horsepower electric motor (total power – 245 hp and 477 Nm); and the second — on a 150-horsepower engine of the same volume with a 177-horsepower electric motor (326 hp and 477 Nm). The BMW iX1 was equipped with a dual-engine unit, the total output of which is 313 hp. (494 Nm).
Production of the BMW X2 and iX2 will be established at the plant in Regensburg (Germany), where “single units” are produced. It is expected that the new product will debut before the end of this year, and will reach European dealers in 2024.
