In Moscow there was a presentation of another Chinese crossover — the Jaecoo J7, which we have already talked about more than once, but for the first time we saw live. Jaecoo J7 belongs to the compact class, has a rather strict design and very rich basic equipment, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, price — from 2,999,900 rubles.
Jaecoo is another near-premium Chery brand focused to export markets. In Russian, Jaecoo is pronounced «dzheyku», the name itself is derived from the German word Jäger (hunter) and the English word Cool (cool).
It would seem, why is some kind of Jaecoo needed if the Russian Federation already has Chery, Exeed, Omoda, Jetour and the Kaiyi brand affiliated with Chery? Because in this way Chery creates the effect of diversity and fills the voids that have arisen in the Russian market after the departure of European and Japanese brands. Jaecoo compares favorably with other subsidiary brands of Chery in that it is the newest (only the electric car brand iCar is newer, but it has not yet launched even in China, it has only just been announced), the J7 crossover is its first and so far only model. In China, the Jaecoo J7 is known as Chery Explore 06; it entered the domestic market last month — in general, it is a very fresh model.

Jaecoo J7 is built on the T1X modular platform. The front suspension is McPherson type, the rear is independent multi-link. Overall length — 4500 mm, width — 1865 mm, height — 1680 mm, wheelbase — 2672 mm. The ground clearance for the front-wheel drive version is 196 mm, for the all-wheel drive version it is 186 mm, and the fuel tank capacity is 51 and 57 liters, respectively. Trunk volume is 412 liters, with the second row seats folded down — 1332 liters. Standard tire size is 235/55 R 18 or 235/50 R 19.
Under the hood is a transversely mounted 1.6-liter gasoline turbo engine with the factory designation SQRF4J16-C, direct injection, but you can use 92-grade gasoline. Maximum output — 186 hp. at 5500 rpm and 275 Nm at 2000-4000 rpm. The gearbox is only a 7-speed automatic DCT type (with two clutches). The all-wheel drive Jaecoo J7 will accelerate to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds, the front-wheel drive in 9.4 seconds, the top speed in both cases is limited to 180 km/h. Jaecoo's all-wheel drive system with an electronically controlled power take-off clutch to the rear axle is called ARDIS (All Road Drive Intelligent System), it has seven operating modes, including for driving on snow, mud and sand.
Four trim levels were announced at the start of sales, but, in fact, there are two of them: Lifestyle and Active are identical in content, Ultimate and Supreme are one and the same, it’s just that Lifestyle and Ultimate refer to the front-wheel drive version of the crossover, and Active and Supreme refer to the all-wheel drive version.

Earlier this week, it debuted in Russia and went on sale for more than large, mid-size crossover Jetour X70 Plus: in price and equipment it is close to the Jaecoo J7, but technically older (produced since 2018) and is offered only with front-wheel drive. The Jetour brand itself entered the Russian market last summer. We would venture to assume that at first the Russian consumer will confuse Jetour and Jaecoo, not only because of the similarity of names, but also because of similar positioning: both brands are about freedom and travel, but Jetour focuses more on family values. The rivalry between Jetour and Jaecoo promises to be interesting, including because different regional structures and different teams of Jetour Motor Rus and Cherry Automobiles Rus, respectively, are responsible for their development in the Russian Federation.
