McIlroy and Lowry sang «Europe is on fire» to the team coach on the way from the field back to Rome
Since his tears after defeat at Whistling Straits two years ago, McIlroy has been the life and soul of Marco Simone. He also laughed and joked with fans, waving his cap at one and declaring, «I don't have to pay to wear it,» referring to a rumored dispute in the US locker room over whether players should be paid to play. in the Ryder Cup.
However, when the Northern Irishman was joined by the rest of his squad, scenes became even more rowdy as the players boarded a bus believed to be heading to the team hotel in Rome.
Footage posted on social media showed McIlroy, Lowry and other players sing at the top of their voices “Europe is on fire, the USA is in terror” to Gala’s song “Freed From Desire.”
This song became recognized. A regular visitor to major sporting events, he was received by spectators at the Ryder Cup.

Rory McIlroy vows to win Ryder Cup again at Bethpage James Corrigan in Marco Simone
Rory McIlroy ended his mission to redeem the Ryder Cup after beating Team USA in Rome — then warned Europe would end its home winning streak in New York in two years.
Zach Johnson's guests arrive in the Italian capital confident of ending a 30-year wait for victory on foreign soil, but despite signs of a fightback in Sunday's final singles, were beaten comfortably.
That means the away team have lost each of their last five matches — a record in the modern era — since Europe captured glory in the Miracle of Medina in 2012, but McIlroy is confident this blue and gold kit will defy that trend in the atmosphere , which may be the most hectic yet.

“I've been saying this for the last six or seven years to anyone who will listen: I think one of the greatest accomplishments in golf right now is winning the Ryder Cup on the road,” McIlroy said. «And that's what we're going to do at Bethpage.»
McIlroy physically hit the table, as he said in his post-match press conference. It was the end of a dramatic day when Tommy Fleetwood's penultimate match secured Europe's ninth victory in the last 12 Ryder Cups as Rickie Fowler missed a test putt on the 16th before victory was decided later.
However, it was McIlroy who was at the center of the narrative. On Saturday night, he was involved in an altercation with Joe LaCava, Patrick Cantlay's caddy, and as a result, his teammates nicknamed him «Rocky McIlroy.» However, McIlroy believed the incident was no laughing matter. . In it, LaCava — a longtime player of Tiger Woods — mockingly waved his cap to the crowd after Cantlay's long birdie putt on the 18th and never left McIlroy's sight when asked about it. The couple quarreled on the lawn, and then an indecent quarrel continued in the parking lot.

“I was hot yesterday after all that,” McIlroy said. “Leaving on the 18th was probably the angriest thing I've ever felt in my career. I told this to the US guys, I thought what happened was disgraceful and I made that clear. I felt like I used that to my advantage and came out with a different level of focus and determination, and in some ways it gave the whole team a little bit of fire in our bellies. It was not just disrespectful to me, but to the entire team.”
McIlroy was also spurred on by memories of 2021. At Whistling Straits he cried live on television after a record 19-9 defeat, admitting he felt he had let the team down. This time he scored four points out of five and became the top scorer of both teams.
«It hurts. This is true,” he said. «Everyone at the beginning of the week was asking, 'Oh, you want to get back at Team USA?' But it wasn't about revenge. It was about redemption and showing what we are capable of.”
Still, there was definitely a sense of vengeance in the air in Rome on Sunday. LaCava wrote to McIlroy on Saturday night to apologize and try to arrange a face-to-face meeting on Sunday morning to clear things up, but the world number two decided to concentrate on preparing for his game with Sam Burns.< /p>
“We didn’t see each other in person, but we corresponded,” McIlroy said. “This is a point of contention and it still hurts, but time is the great healer and we will all move on.”
🗣️ “It fuels me.”

McIlroy's 3-and-1 victory over Burns, the reigning world match play champion, was Europe's third singles point, taking them to 13 points. Tyrrell Hatton added another and the glory went to Fleetwood, who beat Rickie Fowler 3 and 1. The singles session was halved at 6-6, but that was of little consolation to the USA.
Their captain, Zach Johnson, raised his hands. “I’d like to start the week over again, but that’s not possible,” he said. “I wish I could have done a better job.
I'm proud of my guys, they fought. It's not about them, it's about me. Perhaps these are some bad decisions that are worth thinking about. I do not know yet. I don't know where to start. It's too fresh and too raw. I don't have the brainwaves to function right now.
“I’ll think about it and at some point Team USA will be better. We'll find out. We have motivation and they [the players] will learn too. We will look from all sides and diagnose every little thing. I'm not making excuses, Europe outplayed us and they deserved it.”
For his part, Donald was in tears but did not say whether he was ready to take on the role again in New York. despite the players chanting «two more years» at the awards ceremony. Last summer, Donald became an emergency replacement for Henrik Stenson after the Swede joined the LIV Golf League and was relieved of his position.
“I'm very emotional,” Donald said. “It was a long process, it was an amazing journey and I loved it. It was stressful. The United States entered the fray today and hats off to them. It's incredible, but I'm so proud of my 12 guys.
“We became friends from day one and they gave me everything. They trusted me and completed their task. Not many people gave us a chance after Whistling Straits.
“We were big underdogs, we started to show some form in the last six months and I'm really happy with my team. I think these guys will be here for a long time.”
