The model of the Japanese brand, intended primarily for the US market, will be the same in size as the current flagship crossover CX- 90.
The Japanese company Mazda in October 2021 announced its plan to release new products, including for the North American market. The first of these was the Mazda CX-50 SUV; its production started in January last year at a joint plant with Toyota in Huntsville (Alabama). The second new product was the flagship three-row crossover Mazda CX-90: it debuted in early February 2023.

It was assumed that another new product promised to the States, the CX-70, was already on its way to the assembly line, because it was previously reported that sales of the two-row SUV would begin before the end of 2023. As it turned out, the project received an unexpected delay: as reported by Automotive News, citing the head of Mazda's American division, Tom Donnelly, production and sales of the new product will begin next year.
Let us remind you that the CX-90, which is already on sale, can have only three rows of seats (depending on the configuration, its interior can be designed for either six or seven passengers). In turn, the Mazda CX-70 will be supplied with only two rows of seats, while the dimensions of these cars are the same (the manufacturer announced this in the spring of 2023).
As we reported earlier, the length of the “ninety” is 5100 mm (and taking into account the holder for the front license plate — 5121 mm), its width is 2156 mm, its height is 1732 or 1745 mm (depending on the version), and the distance between the axles is flagship SUV – 3119 mm. The Mazda CX-90 also has ground clearance of 203 or 206 mm (depending on the version), and trunk volume is 422 liters (calculated using the SAE method).
It is known that the Mazda CX-70 will have a plug-in hybrid setup, likely similar to that found in the CX-90 lineup. It is based on a 2.5-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine, working in tandem with an electric motor, and also includes a small-capacity lithium-ion battery. It's paired with an eight-speed automatic. The total output of the “ninety” is 327 hp, maximum torque is 500 Nm. The drive is all-wheel drive with a front axle coupling.
According to Tom Donnelly, Mazda is preparing an all-electric car for the North American market new product He explained that it will most likely be an SUV, and that the electric car will likely use the name of an “existing product” (that is, some current crossover will have a “green” version). The head of the “regular” office explained that the “electric train” will go on production in 2025, after sales of the MX-30 EV end (the demand for this model did not meet the company’s expectations).
Another model of the brand that is leaving the United States is the large crossover Mazda CX-9 (the company published the corresponding official message last summer). Let us remember that in the “pre-crisis” time, this model was also presented on the Russian market; production was established at a plant in Vladivostok.
