It is expected that such a new product from the Japanese brand will be addressed to the markets of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries.
Toyota first unveiled the IMV 0 concept in December last year during the celebration of the sixtieth anniversary of the Thai division of the Japanese company. Later, in the summer of this year, the truck was shown at a motor show in Indonesia. And just recently, at the end of last month, the pickup truck became one of the exhibits at the Japan Mobility exhibition. Later, a production model will be created based on the show car.
Toyota IMV 0 Concept
The name of the concept truck stands for Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle 0 (Zero). As Kolesa.ru reported earlier, it was assumed that an inexpensive commercial vehicle for developing markets would be created on its basis. It is known that the Toyota IMV 0 is based on a steel frame, and the rear suspension is dependent leaf spring. At the same time, the exterior is designed in the style of the brand’s classic SUVs, which can also include the recently updated Land Cruiser 70.
Earlier it became known that the production version based on the IMV 0 concept will appear next year. Initially, Toyota intends to set up production of the new product in Thailand, and later it will appear in factories in other countries where affordable “workhorses” are in demand. The model will be equipped with diesel, gasoline, gas engines, as well as hybrid and all-electric power plants (“filling” will vary depending on the market).
The first details about the future production truck, which will be based on the IMV 0 show car, were shared in Autocar India. According to the publication, the compact pickup truck may be named Toyota Hilux Champ. It is expected that sales of the new Japanese brand in the markets of ASEAN countries will begin in 2025. It is possible that the model will appear in India.
The concept pickup truck with a single-row cab has a length of 5300 mm, a width of 1785 mm, a height of 1740 mm, and the distance between the axles is 3085 mm. The production version will probably have similar dimensions. Earlier in India, a camouflaged prototype of the model was caught on the roads during tests; judging by those pictures, the exterior of the commercial truck will differ little from the appearance of the show car.
According to the Indian publication, the basic version of the Toyota Hilux Champ will have rear-wheel drive, and more expensive options may get an all-wheel drive system. It is expected that the production model will have diesel versions and options with a hybrid installation based on a gasoline engine. The electric version is not expected in the markets of ASEAN countries.
Recall that at the Japan Mobility Show, the Japanese company presented another concept truck — Toyota EPU. It is assumed that on its basis the manufacturer could create a competitor to the Ford Maverick. This show car has a monocoque body, as well as all-electric technology, the details of which were not disclosed by the company.
