The company has outlined the approximate starting price tag for the new product — in the European market the hatchback can be purchased for 20 thousand euros.
Renault Twingo debuted back in 1992; over the past years, the model has managed to change generations a couple of times. Let us note that the “baby” of the French brand in the first generation was very popular: in Europe, annual sales of the Renault Twingo exceeded 200 thousand units, but later the demand began to decline. The third generation, introduced in 2019, was developed as part of a partnership with Daimler and its smart brand. Previously, it was assumed that the current generation would be the last for the model, but, as it turned out, the company decided to retain both the recognizable name and the very idea of an inexpensive small city car.
Fourth generation Renault Twingo concept
Renault today showed the fourth generation Twingo, although so far the subcompact hatchback has debuted as a concept. The show car received a single-volume body and a design in a retro style: this is “hinted” by semicircles of running lights and lanterns, circles of original door handles, as well as various elements made of black glossy and matte plastic. In the appearance of the hatch, many references to the 1992 Twingo are visible.
Despite the modest dimensions (accurate dimensions have not yet been indicated), the hatchback has five doors, and the mechanism for opening the rear side ones is hidden near the rear roof pillar, and for the front ones there is an unusual handle enclosed in a luminous circle. The city car also received extended wheel arches, a sloping windshield, traditional exterior mirrors, and the hood was decorated with an updated brand logo.
The company has not yet shown the interior of the prototype of the future new product. Most likely, the subcompact hatchback will be a two-row one; it is possible that its interior, like that of the current Renault Twingo, will be designed for four passengers.
There is no information about the filling of the fourth generation Twingo yet. We only know that it will be completely electric. The company also noted that the hatchback will boast economical consumption: 10 kWh per 100 km.
By According to preliminary data, the future city car will be based on the AmpR Small platform — this is the new name of the CMF-BEV “trolley”, on which the larger Renault 5 electric hatchback is based (in the hierarchy of the brand it will take a place one step above the Twingo). Its production version will go on sale on the old world market in 2024, and the starting price will be approximately 25 thousand euros.
According to Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo, the task of the new Twingo is to “change the rules of the game,” and in this it will follow following in the footsteps of his predecessor, who celebrated his 30th anniversary last year. Note that the project is being implemented by the Ampere division, which is developing electric vehicles.

The production model, scheduled to debut in 2026, should be inexpensive. The company has so far announced the estimated starting price tag for the subcompact electric car Renault Twingo: it is expected that Europeans will be able to buy the “green” five-door in the initial version for about 20 thousand euros.
