KRASNODAR, December 30The Supreme Court of the Republic of Adygea sentenced an eighteen-year-old defendant for high treason, who collected information about the Maykop military unit for a representative of a foreign state while he was a minor, the court’s press service reported.
The young man lived in Maykop and did not agree with the political course of Russia and the special military operation carried out by the Russian Armed Forces on the territory of Ukraine. From December 23, 2021 to February 8, 2023, the young man observed and photographed the locations of the military unit of the Russian Ministry of Defense in Maykop. Then he sent the photographs to a representative of a foreign state.
«By the verdict of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Adygea dated December 28, 2023, citizen L. was found guilty of committing a crime under Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (high treason — ed.), and he was sentenced using Article 64 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation in the form of imprisonment for a term of four year, with restriction of freedom for a period of one year, with the serving of the main sentence in a general regime correctional colony. On the day of sentencing, citizen L. had already reached the age of majority,» the message says.
It is noted that at the court hearing the defendant fully admitted his guilt and repented of his deeds.
According to the court, the mitigating factor was the defendant’s minor age at the time of the crime, as well as active participation in its detection and investigation, admission of guilt and sincere repentance for the crime, committing a crime for the first time. The young man has positive characteristics in his place of residence and study, and has many victories at various Olympiads. In addition, the defendant has chronic diseases.
The verdict has not entered into legal force.
