Between an intergalactic lucrative venture and a woman with unorthodox views and a deep voice, who has been the last few years behaved with restraint. That's the plot of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, in which the greedy Trade Federation tries to impose good manners on Naboo's Padmé Amidala.
But in some ways, it's also the plotline of the ongoing scandal between Disney and the former Star Wars actress » Gina Carano. The former MMA star just turned on his blasters and sued Disney's Lucasfilm division for discrimination and wrongful termination. There's also a cameo from the social media equivalent of Darth Vader: Carano's case against Disney is funded by Twitter/X Sith Lord Elon Musk.
Lucasfilm has fired Carano from its Disney The Mandalorian project. series and future Star Wars projects due to a number of controversial social media posts. On February 10, 2021, she shared a tweet recalling the treatment of Jews in Nazi Germany in the context of the shunning of right-wing Republicans in the US.
“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers, but by their neighbors,” the message began. “How is this different from hating someone because of their political views?”
This comes on the heels of earlier Instagram posts in which Carano appeared to mock the use of gender pronouns by «identifying» as «beep/bop/boop.» She also spoke out against wearing masks, tweeting: «Dem government leaders are now recommending [sic] that we all wear blindfolds along with our masks so we can't see what's really going on.»

Thrown into deep space by Disney, Carano is now striking back. In her lawsuit, she claims Disney and Lucasfilm «harassed and slandered» her for «refusing to agree with their views on issues relating to Black Lives Matter, preferred pronouns, and debunked claims of election interference.»
She says Disney, which paid her $25,000 per episode of The Mandalorian, forced her to meet with the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Discrimination and publicly apologize for her tweets. She refused. She was then asked to meet with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and representatives of the 45 LGBTQ+ Disney employees. Carano, again refusing to do so, says she was fired. (Disney has not yet commented on the lawsuit, but at the time called her social media posts «disgusting and unacceptable.»)
She also claims that Disney later removed the Running with Bear Grylls episode from its series. streaming service, in which she appeared in an «attempt to defame her» (the episode aired later). According to the lawsuit: «Defendants went so far as to try to persuade Carano's publicist to force Carano to issue a statement admitting to mocking or insulting an entire group of people, which Carano never did.»

Carano says she was singled out because of her gender. She points to Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal's tweets comparing Donald Trump supporters to Nazis as an example of Disney's double standards. Why was it acceptable for Pascal to remember Hitler even though she was punished for retweeting a post about Nazis?
“Some of us have been unfairly singled out, persecuted, persecuted and deprived of our livelihoods because we dared to encourage conversation, asked questions and refused to go along with the crowd,” she said in a statement.
< p>To Herself An important talking point in this lawsuit may be Musk's involvement. He is one of the few people on this or any other planet who has the financial means to stand up to Disney. Musk has pledged to fund lawsuits against X users who believe they have been discriminated against by their employers.

After being fired from Disney, Carano tried to reinvent herself as a star in the tiny right-wing film industry—with mediocre results. She was hired by Daily Wire, a fringe streamer founded by activist Ben Shapiro. Her first project was the 2022 western Terror on the Prairie. Reviews were mixed. «The artist formerly known as Cara Dune is a very limited and often obscure actress,» Starburst said.
This was followed by an appearance opposite Lawrence Fox in the film My Son the Hunter. Foxx plays Joe Biden's troubled son, and Carano plays a Secret Service operative named Agent Hound. The film, distributed by Breitbart News, is deeply surreal—somewhere between Twin Peaks and Fox News. Carano's lawsuit could go in any direction. But if she—and Musk—succeed, the impact on Hollywood will be significant. She's not the only right-wing star who claims to have been cast into the void for her views. For example, actor Antonio Sabato Jr., a Calvin Klein model turned star of the soap opera General Hospital, said he was kicked out of the industry for publicly acknowledging Donald Trump.
“I had to sell everything… I had to pay off all my debts. I was blacklisted,” he told Variety. “All my representatives left me: from agents to managers and commercial agents. I literally had to move, find a new job in order to survive and take care of my children. It was terrible. It's amazing. It's a shame. It's hard because if you're in that environment in Hollywood and you have something to say that they don't like, they'll let you know.”
Sabato Jr. will have a hard time. sue someone. What about Milos Bikovic, who says he was fired from the third season of White Lotus as part of a “targeted campaign” after the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry shared photos of the Serbian actor shaking hands with Vladimir Putin?
Such? these cases may well attract the attention of Elon Musk, who seems to relish his role as an international agent of chaos. Many consider Musk to have long since gone over to the dark side — he undoubtedly has a different opinion. Regardless, the fallout from Carano's lawsuit could be explosive: The Death Star could tear through Disney and all of Hollywood.
