ST. PETERSBURG, February 9 . Russian science and education will always be at the world level, despite attempts by external forces to isolate our country, said Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.
Medvedev, who heads the board of trustees of St. Petersburg State University (SPbSU), visited the Mariinsky Theater on Friday, where a concert is being held in honor of the university’s 300th anniversary.
“Russia of the 21st century maintains and strengthens its leadership position as a competitive, strong world power, does not succumb to provocations, resists aggression and withstands external pressure. Of course, we will not allow anyone to isolate us, and the Russian higher education system, our science, despite attempts to carry out such isolation will still be world-class science and education,” he said.
As Medvedev noted, this is also the merit of St. Petersburg State University, whose anniversary he called a holiday for the whole country and a special date in its history. The Deputy Chairman of the Security Council admitted that studying and working at St. Petersburg University for a total of 17 years allowed him to realize himself “both as a lawyer and as a politician.”
Medvedev also thanked the teachers of St. Petersburg State University and wished the students to fully realize their potential and “reach the most outstanding peaks in scientific knowledge.”
