The French brand’s first electric car is based on the yet-to-be-officially presented Renault 5 hatchback. The debut of the A290 electric car will take place this coming summer.
The Alpine brand is part of the Renault Group and is now in the process of total “greening”. The fact that all future models of the brand will be electric became known back in 2021. The company is going to release at least seven electric cars, the next new product will be the hot hatchback Alpine A290: its presentation, as confirmed by the manufacturer, will take place in June of this year.

The Alpine A290 hot hatch is still in development: the company sent camouflaged prototypes of the new product for final winter tests (tests are taking place on public roads in Sweden near the Arctic Circle). The manufacturer tests how the heating, anti-fog and electronic stability control (ESC) functions work on snow. In addition, the 19-inch Michelin winter tires ordered by Alpine specifically for the “hot” five-door are currently being finalized.
The company has published official photos of a camouflaged pre-production prototype of the Alpine A290. Let us remind you that the new product is based on the yet to be officially presented five-door hatchback Renault 5. The hot hatch has the same body, on the top of the trunk door you can see a spoiler that looks like a continuation of the top, and on the roof there is a “shark fin” antenna.< br />

Judging by the published photographs, this electric car was also equipped with traditional exterior mirrors, headlights designed in retro style, as well as additional head optics in the form of luminous “X”s, inscribed in “squared” frames. A large central air intake and a pair of narrow side air intakes are integrated into the lower part of the front bumper.
It is known that The length of the new five-door is 3990 mm, width – 1820 mm, height – 1520 mm, and the distance between the axles is 2530 mm. It is expected that the compact dimensions and short overhangs will allow the electric vehicle to be quite spacious and at the same time very maneuverable.

The manufacturer has also partially declassified the interior of the Alpine A290. More precisely, the company showed a steering wheel covered in Nappa leather with a truncated bottom. The driving mode switches are also located here. The remaining details will be declassified later; probably, the hot hatch's interior will borrow a lot from the “regular” five-door Renault 5.
The Alpine A290 will be based on the CMF-B EV platform. According to preliminary data, the electric car will be equipped with a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 52 kWh. It is expected that its maximum range will be 383 km (when calculated using the WLTP cycle). It is expected that the output of the single electric motor will be about 218 hp. It is possible that later an option with a 272-horsepower electric motor may appear. The Alpine hot hatch will be produced at a plant in France.

In the future, Alpine will present other “hot” new products. So, in 2025 the presentation of the GT X-Over SUV is expected, in 2026 the new generation A110 coupe and roadster will debut, in 2027 — the D-class crossover, a year later — the E-class crossover, and then, according to the brand’s plan , the A310 coupe will be declassified.
