MOSCOW, February 26The Khrunichev Center, where the Angara family of rockets are produced, is developing, together with the Omsk State Technical University, a small Earth remote sensing satellite, said Alexey Varochko, general director of the Khrunichev Center.
““Currently, in the Omsk division of the Khrunichev Center, together with the teaching and student staff of Omsk State Technical University, on an initiative basis, with my support, the development of a small spacecraft is underway,” Varochko said.
According to him, the developers are tasked not only with teaching students and imparting practical skills to them, but also with creating a competitive Earth remote sensing spacecraft.
In addition, the Khrunichev Center is taking part in the creation of small experimental satellites within the framework of the Union State project, noted the general director of the enterprise.
He emphasized that the Center has high intellectual and technical competencies, which may well be applicable to the creation of satellites.
In particular, the KazSat-2 telecommunications satellite was manufactured at the enterprise for Kazakhstan. The declared active life of the device, amounting to 12 years and 3 months, expires on February 26, 2024, but, according to the calculations of the company’s specialists, it will be able to function in orbit until the end of 2027.
“However, today there are no proposals from general customers in this direction,” added Varochko.
