Russian scientists have invented a unique nanopowder for the aircraft industry

SEVASTOPOL, February 26 Sevastopol scientists have invented a unique nanopowder that can be used in aircraft construction, radiation protection, and the production of new materials and equipment, said the director of the collective use center advanced technologies and materials of Sevastopol State University Vladimir Gavrish.
He explained that nanopowder is produced from waste, which makes its production profitable, and its uniqueness lies in the non-spherical shape of the particles, which allows one to achieve better results in the production of certain modifications of materials.

“»It can be used in many places, now we have achieved the most effective indicators in composite materials, radioprotective materials, in certain building mixtures, concrete, cements, ceramics, and so on. And further use is primarily additive technologies, possibly the creation of new devices, taking into account photocatalytic effects, the creation of new alloys,” the scientist said.
In the aircraft industry, nanopowder can be used to create new alloys that will be stronger and lighter, which will reduce the weight of aircraft and increase their carrying capacity. In radiation shielding, nanopowder can be used to create new materials that are more effective at absorbing ionizing radiation.

«It is no secret that when going up, a person who is on board an ordinary passenger airliner receives an increased dose of radiation. By replacing classical materials, we can achieve a lighter weight of the structure and lead to more radiation protection for passengers,» he said.
In equipment manufacturing, nanopowder can be used to create new composite materials that are stronger, lighter and more resistant to various impacts. This will make it possible to create new materials for construction, transport, medicine and other industries.
«First of all, for wind generators, every drop can lead to micro-erosion. Accordingly, all companies that produce wind generator blades are struggling with this in one way or another. We are ready to offer an approach to this solution that will increase energy absorption, accordingly increase crack resistance and reduce erosion of wind turbines. This will lead to the fact that the blades will last longer, their life cycle will be increased,” Gavrish added.
Sevastopol scientists are confident that the new nanopowder will have a significant impact on various industries due to its unique properties and capabilities.
