The huge scandal surrounding the ex-footballer of Barcelona and the Brazilian national team Dani Alves is not slowing down. After being accused of sexual assault, the titled defense attorney was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison. However, the Barcelona court then agreed to temporarily release Alves from custody on bail of one million euros while the appeal is considered.
It would seem that the athlete will remain free for some time, but he has new problems: according to Western media, the Brazilian cannot yet raise the required amount for release on bail. I even had to turn to the father of Neymar’s ex-Barça and national team partner for help.
It is important to note that the prosecutors in the Alves case insisted that the football player , who promised not to escape from Spain, still remained in prison. The prosecution justified its position by the situation with Robinho, who wanted to escape justice in his native Brazil… With the same smiling forward, who at the beginning of his career was compared to the “King of Football” Pele.
The athlete never fully revealed his potential, ending his career without great victories. And now he’s also landed behind bars.
Robson de Souza (Robinho)
- A graduate of Santos, he played for such top clubs as Real Madrid, Manchester City and Milan;
- Champion of Brazil, Spain and Italy;
- As a member of the Brazilian national team, he won the Confederations Cup (twice) and the America's Cup;
- He was part of the Pentacampeons at two world championships, but was called up to the home 2014 World Cup wasn’t;
- Played exactly one hundred matches for the national team, scored 28 goals;
- Give up with football in Santos, agreeing to a symbolic salary of 229 euros per month.
Back in 2017, Robinho and his friend Ricardo Falco were sentenced to nine years in prison for gang rape. It was noted that in January 2013, during a party in a Milan nightclub, a 23-year-old girl from Albania became victims of men. During the trial, transcripts of Robinho's messages, which were intercepted by the police, surfaced: in the correspondence he admitted to a friend that «the girl was completely drunk and had no idea what happened.» The Milan Court of Appeal also did not side with Robinho. It turned out that the athlete “cruelly humiliated” the victim, tried to mislead the investigation and, while testifying, lied about what happened that ill-fated evening.
Already in the fall of 2022, the Italian Ministry of Justice sent an extradition request to Brazil, but Robinho, for whom an international arrest warrant was issued, calculated everything and lay low. After all, according to the law of his native country, the extradition of its citizens is prohibited.

“I’ll say for the first and last time about what everyone is talking about, because I love and respect my family . I've never been involved in anything like this. Those who know me well have an idea of what kind of person I am. Thank God for the wonderful family I have. My wife and children are amazing, they believe in me.»

Later, the football player, in an attempt to save his reputation, decided to bet on… racist attitude on the part of the judicial system.
«
“I performed in Italy for four years and was simply tired of seeing news about racism. Unfortunately, this continues to this day… This was in 2013, now it is 2024. The people who turn a blind eye to this racist behavior are the same people who condemned me. Of course, if the trial had been of a white Italian, things would have been different. Without any doubts. With the amount of evidence I have, I would not have been convicted,” Robinho denied guilt during an interview with TV Record.
Unfortunately for the famous attacker, he was unable to escape justice. Last year, Italy, which had not forgotten the events of ten years ago, demanded that the football player serve a prison sentence in his homeland. The fact is that seven years ago a new immigration law came into force in Brazil, allowing those convicted abroad to serve a prison sentence in their home country if certain requirements are met.
At the end of February, the Supreme Court of Brazil (STJ) summoned Robinho and his friend Falco were taken to court, and on Wednesday Brazilian prosecutors agreed to the Italian government's request. Robinho's passport was taken away and he was forbidden to leave the country — as France Press reports, the athlete will still go to jail in Brazil. The defense of the ex-player of Real Madrid, City and Milan had the right to appeal this decision and quickly took advantage of it: the day before, Robinho appealed to the Supreme Court of Brazil. Lawyers insist that the court's decision to immediately arrest the football player violates judicial practice, and insist that their 40-year-old client should remain free until all appeals are filed and considered.
