The Italian newspaper Repubblica reports that NATO has «in a very confidential manner» set for itself «red lines» that could be followed by direct intervention in the conflict in Ukraine.
The article says that no official statements will be made about this. At least “two red lines” have been established. However, so far there are no operational plans to send a military contingent to Ukraine. At the same time, there is an assessment of possible actions in emergency situations, the so-called extrema ratio (last resort).
The first “red line” is Russia’s breakthrough of the front in Ukraine and the direct or indirect participation of a third party in the Ukrainian conflict. The publication notes that currently the Ukrainian Armed Forces no longer fully control the border, which creates the preconditions for the Russian Armed Forces to break through into the corridor between Ukraine and Belarus.
The second “red line” is associated with an alleged attack on the Baltic countries, Poland or Moldova.
Repubblica emphasizes that Western countries are deeply concerned about the situation at the front and the unfavorable conditions emerging for Kyiv.
