The British company Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, part of the BMW Group, presented the updated Cullinan crossover. The exterior of the car has undergone a significant revision, the interior has become more refined and modern, but the 6.75-liter V12 twin-turbo petrol engine has avoided modernization, because in 2030 Rolls-Royce plans to completely switch to electric vehicles.
The Cullinan debuted in 2018, it almost immediately became the most popular model of the Rolls-Royce brand and allowed it to set record after sales record. Last year, the Rolls-Royce brand sold 6,032 cars in the world; the main demand, of course, fell on the Cullinan, which also made it possible to significantly reduce the average age of a client of the British brand — from 56 years in 2010 to 43 years today. Only 10% of Cullinan owners use the services of a chauffeur; the rest drive the luxury crossover on their own.

The official name of the updated crossover is Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II. From the outside, it is not difficult to distinguish the model of the first series from the second: the front end has been thoroughly redesigned and, frankly speaking, it has caused bewilderment among many online commentators — they say, where did these oblique lines on the bumper come from, as if a body kit from Mansory had been screwed onto a stock Cullinan. In fact, everything is not so scary if you know the background: the designers wanted to give this model a resemblance to a yacht cutting through the water, and the oblique lines of the bumper symbolize the water diverging away from the bow of the vessel.

The headlights have become narrower and acquired side LED daytime running lights, and the radiator grille has been cleverly illuminated. The rear has become more monumental in appearance due to a more prominent bumper with larger exhaust pipes integrated into it. The wheel diameter has increased from 22 to 23 inches, their design has become much more avant-garde, especially on the top version of the Black Badge (the white car in the photographs). The Black Badge version, in addition, has a black decor instead of silver and looks more aggressive.

The changes in the interior are smaller and affect mainly the finishing. On the front panel in front of the passenger, a decorative light panel appeared and a new pointer clock adjacent to it, under which a small figurine of the “Spirit of Ecstasy” was installed in a recess. The instrument screen graphics have been updated and a new version of the proprietary Spirit multimedia system has been installed, which works in tandem with the Whispers mobile application. The finishing materials have become noticeably more refined: the leather now has artistic perforations that form patterns, and textile inserts made of bamboo have artistic weaving of fibers. Atmospheric LED lighting has become much more sophisticated. The 1600-watt, 18-speaker audio system now communicates more easily with external devices. The lower tailgate can still be used as a picnic bench with folding leather chairs.

On the base Cullinan, the 6.75-liter gasoline V12 still produces 571 hp. and 850 Nm, gearbox — 8-speed automatic ZF, drive — only four-wheel drive, with a power take-off clutch to the front wheels. On the Black Badge version, the output of the V12 engine is increased to 600 hp. and 900 Nm. Adaptive air suspension with adjustable ride height and a fully controlled chassis are standard. The dynamic characteristics of the updated crossover have not yet been disclosed; for reference, let’s say that the pre-restyling Cullinan reaches the first “hundred” in 5.2 seconds (Black Badge — in 4.9 seconds), the maximum speed is limited to 250 km/h.
