The first mass-produced truck in the Chinese company’s range will be offered as an all-wheel drive hybrid. A rather impressive list of equipment has been announced for the model.
In general, the full world premiere of the BYD Shark pickup truck will take place only in a few hours, and it will not be held in the automaker’s native China, but in Mexico. However, on the brand's Mexican consumer website, the car already has its own page with branded photographs and main characteristics. Let us remind you that the truck was initially conceived as a global model — it is expected in other countries of Latin America, as well as in Southeast Asia and Australia.

BYD Shark has a frame design; the pickup truck has independent spring suspension on all wheels. The new product is presented only with a four-door, two-row cab. The length of the model is 5457 mm, width – 1971 mm, height – 1925 mm, wheelbase – 3260 mm. The declared carrying capacity is 835 kg, the permissible weight of the towed trailer is 2.5 tons.
The brutal appearance is designed in the style of Ford F-series pickups. In particular, Shark received similar vertical headlight blocks and a massive diode plate that acts as running lights (the electric Ford F-150 Lighting has a similar element). There is also a luminous stripe on the stern.
In the cabin there are separate screens for the instrument panel and multimedia system (10.25 and 12.8 inches, respectively). At the same time, like other BYD models, the central touchscreen can be rotated 90 degrees — then you get a vertical tablet. The list of equipment also includes a head-up display, wireless charging for a smartphone, six airbags, all-round cameras, adaptive cruise control, a driving mode selection system (sand, mud, snow), auto braking and lane keeping systems.

Two years ago, BYD refused to produce cars only with internal combustion engines — all of its modern models are electrified in one way or another. The global pickup truck is an all-wheel drive hybrid. The installation includes a 1.5 petrol turbo engine (mounted longitudinally, it operates mainly in generator mode, but can be connected to the front wheels at speed) and a pair of electric motors (one on each axle). The total output is “more than 430 hp.” The battery capacity was not disclosed at the time of publication of the news, but BYD reported that the Shark pickup could travel 100 km on electric power alone, with a total range of 840 km. However, these indicators are calculated using the outdated NEDC cycle. The pickup accelerates from zero to “hundreds” in 5.7 seconds.
Towards mastering the world BYD Shark market will begin this year. It is assumed that the model will also be sold in China: there they are also tipped for a fully electric version.
