The new Ram 1200 midsize pickup truck has Chinese roots

The truck of the American brand is a twin of the Fiat Titano, Peugeot Landtrek and Kaicene F70. Prices in Mexico are already known.

The Ram brand, owned by the auto giant Stellantis, has decided to expand its model line intended for the Mexican market. It will include a mid-size pickup truck with a familiar index — Ram 1200. Note that in the history of the brand there is already a truck with the same name: a redesigned fifth-generation Mitsubishi L200 was sold under it from 2016 to 2019 (it was also reincarnated in the Fiat Fullback).

The new Ram 1200, information about which, thanks to Mirador Automotriz, “leaked” to the Internet before the official premiere , different roots, although the Fiat model is also listed here. This mid-size pickup truck is a twin to the Fiat Titano, which debuted last December; Let us remind you that the model of the Italian brand is addressed to the countries of Latin America and Africa.

The “donor” for that Fiat was the Peugeot Landtrek, which appeared back in 2020. At the same time, the “French” was created in partnership with the Chinese company Changan, so it also has clones from “heavenly” brands — Kaicene F70 (export name — Changan Hunter), as well as Changan Lantop; By the way, this model is also presented in the Russian Federation — under the name Hunter Plus.

The Ram 1200 differs from the Fiat Titano in the design of the radiator grille: on Ram pickups it has a recess at the bottom and a different design with the brand name in the center. However, the head optics, as well as the lower part of the front bumper with foglights and air intake, look identical. The taillights and tailgate are also designed like the “donors”.

The new product in Mexico will be offered with both a double-row cab and a single-row cab in the “workhorse” version. A simpler option – Tradesman – has an unpainted plastic body kit on the front, as well as a completely black radiator grille, only the brand name is highlighted in silver. For more expensive versions — Bighorn and Laramie — the bumper is painted in body color, and the “grill” has a chrome trim and a couple of decorative elements to match it.

Only one option is offered for all versions of the Ram 1200 “fillings”, although “donors” have more choice. The model is equipped with a 2.4-liter petrol turbo-four, its output is 210 hp and the maximum torque is 320 Nm. This engine is paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic. The Laramie version has a rigidly connected all-wheel drive, the other versions have rear-wheel drive.

As Auto Cosmos reports, the Ram 1200 will be shipped to Mexican dealers from China, although its closest relative, the Fiat Titano, is made in Uruguay. The prices of the new product in Mexico are already known. So, for the starting version of the truck they will ask for at least 444,900 pesos (equivalent to approximately 2.44 million rubles at the current exchange rate), and purchasing the top version will cost at least 668,900 pesos (about 3.67 million rubles).
