Strong artificial intelligence will appear in three years

Sberbank assessed the speed of technology development at GigaConf

2024 was a breakthrough year in terms of the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in the world. But the level achieved is far from the limit. According to Andrey Belevtsev, Senior Vice President, Head of the Technological Development Block at Sberbank, strong AI may appear in three years. At the GigaConf technology conference, the expert noted that with the help of the new system, it will be possible to achieve goals without human participation at all.

“We used to think that fundamental technological breakthroughs could be expected by 2030-2035. But we underestimated the speed of technology development, and it is such that already in 2027 we may see the emergence in the world of systems that can be called strong artificial intelligence, or Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), said Andrey Belevtsev at GigaConf . “These systems will be able to independently formulate tasks and achieve goals without human intervention.”

The expert spoke about other changes in the field of AI technologies that are expected on the horizon in the coming years.

Thus, 6 million users are already using the capabilities of GigaChat, and the total number of requests to the service has already exceeded 90 million.

«This year, the model became one of the first in the world to pass the exam of a higher medical institution in the field of training » ;Medicinal business. And with the Ministry of Finance, we also developed the first AI agent in public administration to optimize the budget process based on GigaChat,” noted Belevtsev.

Also, according to him, by the end of the year it is planned to update the service, which will understand requests in Uzbek and Arabic.

In addition, Sber is actively pursuing the process of import substitution of foreign solutions. Now, for example, he is creating his own environment for developing and executing Java applications.

“Sberbank is consistently implementing a strategy of import substitution and transition to its own solutions. By the end of the year, we will implement our own development and execution environment for Java applications, SberJDK,” Andrey Belevtsev told reporters. — At the moment, there is an obvious need for our own JDK and JRE, as well as system support. Therefore, our team began developing our own fully functional standardized platform SberJDK, which can comprehensively replace foreign analogues in the Sber circuit. We managed to assemble a team of world-class engineers with unique expertise and experience to create a unique solution on the Russian market.”

Sber has a Java stack of unprecedented size, which requires full control over the product while complying with all security requirements. Meanwhile , we note that, according to Sberbank, in 2023 the financial effect from the introduction of AI amounted to more than 350 billion rubles. Over 5 years, this effect could amount to about 1.5 trillion rubles.
