CyberStage, a program to support entrepreneurs in the field of information security and related areas, has summed up the results of its work for the first six months. 25 startups and 10 partners joined the program.
According to CyberStage analysts, there are at least 170 vendors in Russia the field of information security with revenue up to 1 billion rubles. 29% of them were created in the last two to three years, 22% show a multiple increase in revenue annually.
At the same time, there are very few venture or M&A deals with information security startups. In the first half of 2024, two transactions were publicly announced: the acquisition of 51% of the Secure-T company by Solar Group and the investment of the Softline Venture Partners fund in the Findler product. Large companies still prefer to develop through their own developments and strategic partnerships, rather than investing in startups.
More than half of the information security market's revenue is shared by integrators and service companies. Among vendors, two-thirds of revenue comes from the largest information security companies, the remaining third from small companies. In 2023, the market volume of information security vendors with revenues of up to 1 billion rubles. amounted to 32 billion rubles, which is almost 50% more than the previous year (21 billion rubles). The advantages of young technology projects are that they focus on niches that are of little interest to corporations, and they can also bring new products to market faster in response to changing customer needs.
In February, Solar Group of Companies, with the participation of major IT market experts, announced the launch of Russia’s first comprehensive startup support program, CyberStage. It covers a wide range of tasks — from creating a convenient platform for interaction between participants to stimulating the launch of fundamentally new projects in empty or under-provided information security niches, as well as increasing the level of attractiveness of information security for IT entrepreneurs.
In the first six months of the program, 25 startups took part in it, and four projects are preparing to attract investments. The Advisory Board format — monthly meetings with IT and information security experts from the largest companies — aroused the greatest interest among participants. The result of a large number of requests for this type of interaction was the decision to form an additional group of advisors.
The relevance of the program was confirmed by the interest from large development institutions, foundations, and corporate programs. CyberStage’s partners include SberUnity, the Moscow Innovation Cluster, IIDF, Startech, the Hive venture fund, etc. CyberStage provides partners with expertise and assessment of the development dynamics of projects in the field of information security, expanding their understanding of the state of the market and its prospects, and also helps to find suitable startups to provide investments.
“We are preparing to further expand the network of partners, experts and projects in order to jointly create innovative and successful products in information security. By the end of the year, the number of participating projects should reach 30–40,” noted Vladislav Rasskazov, director of venture investments at Solar Group, head of the CyberStage program.
