Former US first lady Melania Trump is reportedly jealous of the positive attention her successor at the White House is receiving and "bitter and chilly" toward her husband over the way they left Washington, sources have said.
Since Donald Trump left office on January 20 amid accusations that he tried to foment an insurrection to overturn his election loss, the former president and his wife have moved to Florida, where Mrs Trump has reportedly retreated to the spa at Mr Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach.
"She goes to the spa, has lunch, goes to the spa (again) and has dinner with Donald on the patio," a person familiar with her schedule at Mar-a-Lago told CNN. "Rinse and repeat. Every day."
The channel reported that Mrs Trump — who reportedly spends hours every day receiving massages, nail care, facials and other treatments — is jealous of positive media coverage of the new First Lady Jill Biden.
Mrs Biden, who already has nearly a dozen full-time staff with her in the East Wing of the White House, has graced the cover of People magazine alongside her husband President Joe Biden, appeared alongside him in a Super Bowl television appearance, and held at least seven events or speaking engagements of her own.
Mrs Trump retained a lower profile with fewer public engagements as first lady, and never giving media interviews.
Since leaving Washington, her schedule has barely changed, an anonymous source reportedly familiar with her routine told CNN. "It’s pretty much the same as it was before (she was first lady) or even when she would come down during vacations," the source said.
Since the CNN story was published, Mrs Trump posted on Twitter for the first time since her husband left office, announcing on Friday that she was opening The Office of Melania Trump.
The office will focus on her favourite causes including children’s well-being, raising awareness of the opioid epidemic in the United States and advocating against cyberbullying, the office said in a statement to Breitbart.
“She has always been a humanitarian and an entrepreneur by nature. She has many different ideas, and it will take time to establish them,” her office said in a statement to the conservative outlet. “No matter what she decides to do, it will be done with quality and passion.”
Her number one priority remains her role as mother to 14-year-old Barron Trump, her team said.
