Ram 1500 REV details: over 800 km on a single charge, and there will also be an internal combustion engine version

Stellantis Corporation has revealed the key specifications of its first production Ram 1500 REV electric pickup truck and they are, admittedly, impressive.

The electric Ram 1500 debuted earlier this year at CES as a very eye-catching concept with a three-row cab and sliding body. The production version was shown in February, and it turned out to be very far from the concept: the cabin, in fact, was taken from the current «hydrocarbon» Ram 1500, which somewhat upset potential customers — not because the cabin is bad, but because the concept promised completely an original machine designed from scratch. Now, at the New York Auto Show, Stellantis Corporation held a technical presentation of the Ram 1500 REV and presented its main trump cards in the fight against competitors from Ford and GM.

So, at the moment, only one twin-motor electric propulsion system has been announced for the Ram 1500 REV: two EDM modules, in which the electric motor, gearbox and inverter are combined, are installed on the front and rear axles, each delivering 250 kW (340 hp) of maximum power , but the maximum cumulative return is 488 kW (663 hp) and 840 Nm. The front module can be switched off while driving to conserve battery power, and an electronically locking differential is built into the rear. An empty pickup truck can accelerate to 60 mph (96.56 km/h) in 4.4 seconds. » />

The capacity of the 800-volt battery is 168 or 229 kWh, the estimated range on a single charge according to the EPA cycle is 563 and 804 km, respectively. The maximum charging power is 350 kW, it allows you to replenish the range of 177 km in about 10 minutes. To power external devices from the pickup battery, several outlets are provided, including a 3.6 kW power in the front trunk and a 7.2 kW power in the back. The load capacity of the Ram 1500 REV is 1225 kg, the permissible weight of the towed trailer is 6350 kg. Front trunk capacity — 425 liters.

Following a purely electric pickup, the Ram 1500 REV XR will see the light — a range extender hybrid with an electric range extender in the form of a gasoline engine, but there are no details about this version yet, it is only known that it will have a market-record range on a single charge/gas station .

The frame underlying the electric pickup (part of the STLA Frame platform) has been redesigned, it is covered from below with an aerodynamic shield, which makes a significant contribution to good aerodynamic performance (cx = 0.34). Suspension — independent «in a circle», adaptive, pneumatic, it has five height modes: the lowest «landing/disembarking», «aerodynamic» for driving on motorways, «standard», «off-road 1» and «off-road 2» (the most high). The largest wheels are 22-inch wheels wrapped in 275/50 R 22 Pirelli Scorpion tires, but 20-inch wheels on higher profile tires will also be offered.

The Ram 1500 REV has five trim lines — Tradesman, Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie, Limited and Tungsten. The latter is the most expensive, it will have quilted leather upholstery, decorative “platinum” inserts, a suede ceiling, especially comfortable front seats with a lot of adjustments and massagers, a Klipsch Reference Premiere audio system with 23 speakers, and much more.

The layout of the front panel in the electric pickup is generally the same as in the «hydrocarbon» Ram 1500, but the screens and many of the controls are completely new. The instrument screen is 12.3-inch, the central multimedia screen is 12- or 14.5-inch. In addition, a 10-inch projection screen is provided for the driver, and a 10.25-inch “navigator” screen for the front passenger, invisible to the driver, that is, you can watch video on it while driving. For the driver, a large number of various electronic assistants are provided, including a level 2 autopilot that allows you to take your hands off the steering wheel on highways, but you need to look at the road all the time.

As part of the news, we will not analyze in detail the Ram 1500 REV in comparison with its main competitors — the Ford F-150 Lightning and Chevrolet Silverado EV, we will only note that the Ram outperforms them in terms of maximum range, carrying capacity and front trunk volume, but inferior in maximum power to a GM pickup truck. Production and sales of Ram 1500 REV will begin next year.
