BMW has unveiled a 748-horsepower, top-of-the-line Label Red version of the XM sports hybrid crossover, starting at $185,000.
The first crossover developed entirely by the sports division of BMW M GmbH debuted last September with a 653-horsepower plug-in hybrid powertrain, an even more powerful version of Label Red was announced at the same time, and today it is completely declassified.
As it turned out, in terms of technology, the Label Red version is arranged in exactly the same way as the base XM: there are no special settings in the adaptive suspension, all-wheel drive system or in the active rear differential, but there are only more powerful 4.4-litre V8 biturbo petrol engine: its output compared to the conventional BMW XM has been increased from 489 hp and 650 Nm up to 585 hp and 750 Nm.

The characteristics of the only electric motor implanted in the 8-speed «automatic» are the same — 145 kW (197 hp) and 280 Nm, for a short time the torque can increase to 450 Nm (the so-called Boost Mode). The maximum cumulative output of the power plant has increased from 653 hp. and 800 Nm up to 748 hp and 1000 Nm. The acceleration time to 100 km/h was reduced from 4.3 to 3.8 s, the maximum speed with the optional M Driver's Package increased from 270 to 290 km/h (without this package it is limited to 250 km/h).

The useful capacity of the traction battery mounted in the floor of the body is the same — 25.7 kWh, its full charge is enough for 75-83 km of run in electric mode according to the WLTP cycle. The maximum speed in electric mode is limited to 140 km/h.

The standard exterior features of the Label Red version are red badges and red inserts on the 21-inch wheels. The red surrounds for the giant front nostrils, side glass and rear bumper diffuser are an option and a feature of the limited debut 500 car in Frozen Carbon Black (which is the car shown in the photos). By default, the interior is generously flavored with red inserts, but in terms of equipment it does not fundamentally differ from the usual XM.

BMW XM Label Red is currently the most powerful stock «hydrocarbon» crossover in the world. For comparison, let's say that the Ferrari Purosangue has 725 hp at its disposal, the Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat has 720 hp, the Aston Martin DBX707 has 707 hp. Nevertheless, full electrification promises new horizons of power: for example, the American four-engine Drako Dragon promises as much as 2028 hp, but its production will begin only in 2026.
XM Label Red production on the American BMW plant in Spartanburg (South Carolina) will begin in August this year, the order for the novelty can be placed at the end of April.
