The Biden administration is 'interfering' with a criminal investigation into Hunter Biden, a whistleblower said.
US Internal Revenue Service agent who oversaw a lengthy case involving President Joe Biden's son's tax returns , is seeking protection from whistleblowers to testify before Congress.
A letter sent by the agent's lawyer to senior politicians on Tuesday said they have information that refutes testimony given by a «high-ranking political appointee,» according to Wall Street Journal.
The agent is also aware of «failure to mitigate apparent conflicts of interest in the final decision of the case,» the letter added.
According to the letter, they are aware of details indicating that «preferred attitudes and policies inappropriately contaminate decisions and protocols that would normally be followed by professional law enforcement officers in similar circumstances if the subject was not politically connected.
While the letter does not mention Hunter Biden's name, instead mentioning «an ongoing and sensitive investigation into a high-profile contentious issue since early 2020,» people familiar with the matter have made the connection, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Federal investigation regarding Hunter Biden began in 2018. At first, his attention was focused on his finances related to foreign business connections and consulting work amid suspicions of «suspicious foreign transactions.»
Since then, officials have been investigating whether he reported all of his income and whether he previously lied on gun purchase documents in 2018.

Investigators reportedly believe they have enough evidence to indict Hunter Biden.
Prosecutors also considered whether his highly publicized history of drug addiction could defend against any criminal tax case.
The investigation is led by Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney David Weiss, who retained his role as prosecutor. Delaware's chief federal attorney under the Biden administration.
Mr. Little said his client is «ready to be questioned about what he knows and what he has experienced with proper legal protection.»
The agent has worked for the IRS for more than a decade and has evidence to support his claim, he added.
«It really doesn't come down to his credibility, whether you believe him or not,» Mr. Little told the CBS Evening News.
«Because what he went through is very well documented in emails and other messages. with the Department of Justice.”
Mr. Little said his client believes the Hunter Biden investigation was conducted differently than any other in his long career.
Seniors Republicans have responded with calls to hold the Biden administration accountable for «blocking» investigations into Hunter Biden.
«It is deeply concerning that the Biden administration may be obstructing justice by blocking efforts to indict Hunter Biden for tax violations.
