Canadian socialite Jasmine Hartin pleaded guilty to «accidental» shooting of a Belize police chief two years ago back.

Hartin burst into tears as she filed her application in Belize's Supreme Court, where she was due to stand trial on Wednesday for negligent manslaughter.

Her lawyers requested a last-minute reprieve to consider pleading guilty to the death of supt Henry Gemmott. The next court hearing will be a sentencing hearing, expected to take place on May 31.

In the court yard, Hartin said, «I just want peace in the Henry family now, and I want all of this behind us all.» so that we may be healed.”

At Wednesday's hearing, prosecutors presented Judge Ricardo Sandcroft with a dossier of evidence that would have been uncovered had the trial continued.

The court heard that the plea case did not include imprisonment.

With tears in her eyes Hartin's trembling voice trembled across her face as she stood on the small wooden jetty to deliver his final speech in a packed courtroom.

A Belize court heard that the precedent for a guilty plea was a non-custodial sentence, including a fine.

Judge Ricardo Sandcroft said it was unlikely & #34;to deviate& #34; from existing precedent, but had previously warned Hartin at an earlier hearing that he was «not bound»; to him.

She is scheduled to return to the same court on May 31 for sentencing after the judge receives a socio-economic report that will be used to determine the amount of the fine.
