The Bavarian marque will start production of the next generation 5 series at the plant in Dingolfing (Germany) this summer. Sales in the European market, according to the plan, will begin in October this year.
The history of the BMW 5 series goes back more than half a century, the production of the model began in 1972. The «Five» of the current seventh generation debuted in October 2016, so it's time to change the generation. Now the development of the eighth generation car is now at the final stage, it is known that the premiere of the novelty will take place on May 24. The Bavarian manufacturer will show both the «regular» version of the 5 series, and an all-electric modification with its own name BMW i5.

The company has not yet officially declassified the appearance of the future novelty. However, at the end of last month, spy shots of the BMW i5 prototype from winter road tests were published on the BMW press site; now, the manufacturer has shared photos of the electric car, which is undergoing a series of summer tests.
Note that there is still no information about what the next generation BMW 5 series will look like, although previously artists have already presented a potential novelty appearance. The designer of the Spanish publication Motor.es decided to share another version of the exterior: this time, the render shows the stern of the alleged eighth-generation sedan.
It is assumed that some of the decisions in the design of the «five» will receive from the «older» model BMW 7 series. Judging by the image, the novelty may receive other lights that go to the rear fenders and trunk lid. They will probably have a pattern of two stripes, one of which thickens towards the edge. A pair of trapezoidal tailpipes with rounded corners (one on each side) are integrated into the lower part of the rear bumper, as well as glossy dark gray inserts with narrow horizontal reflectors.

As previously reported, the next generation BMW 5 series will feature the curved a display that combines a virtual «dashboard» and a touchscreen of an infotainment system with the new BMW OS 8.5 operating system. «/>
Recall that the range of the next “five” will remain gasoline and diesel versions, but all equipment will be electrified: in the initial versions, internal combustion engines will work as part of a mild hybrid system in tandem with a 48-volt “electronic weight”. In addition, it is known that the lineup will include rechargeable hybrids, it is assumed that they will have enough power reserve for about 100 km (according to the WLTP cycle) purely on electric traction. The i5 electric car will initially be released in two versions — the base eDrive40 and the top-end M60 xDrive. In the first case, a single 335-horsepower electric motor is assumed, located on the rear axle, in the second — a twin-engine power plant, the total output of which will be at least 590 hp.
