Relevant conclusions are given in the report of the Scientific Center for Road Safety (NTs BDD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The increase in road accidents is most noticeable in the eastern regions of the country.
Last year, traffic flows were redistributed in the Russian Federation: international economic sanctions and the closure of borders are cited as reasons. As a result, traffic flows have changed direction from the west to the southeast — we are talking in particular about Turkey, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and China. A recent report from the Research Center for Traffic Safety says that accidents have increased in the country in 2022.
According to the document cited by Kommersant, the increase in the number of traffic accidents was especially noticeable in the eastern regions: on some routes, the figures increased quite noticeably. In particular, on the federal highway A-320 (from Omsk to the border with Kazakhstan), the accident rate increased by 76% in 2022, on the R-297 Amur (from Chita to Khabarovsk), the figure increased by 25%, and on A -321 (from Barnaul to the border with Kazakhstan) — by 20.8%.
Another analyst studying statistics recorded an increase in accidents involving foreign drivers in those federal districts that border on Asian countries: in the Far East (an increase of 29.6%), the Urals (27.8% more), Siberian (an increase of 15.1%).
The report of the National Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia states that roads and infrastructure in a number of regions were not ready for a sharp increase in the flow of trucks. «The main transport arteries began to operate in overload mode, the mileage of vehicles increased,» the document says.
It is worth noting that the number of traffic accidents has decreased on those roads that lead to the borders with Western countries. So, on the M-9 «Baltic» highway, the accident rate decreased by 23.8% last year, on the M-10 «Russia» the indicator fell by 23%, and on the R-21 (from St. Petersburg to the border with Norway) decreased by 17.6%.
In addition, the Research Center for Traffic Safety noted that last year the country's vehicle fleet increased by only 0.5%, while earlier an increase of 1.4-1.9% was recorded annually. Recall that in the crisis year, auto production in the Russian Federation, according to Rosstat, decreased by 44.7%. At the same time, according to Avtostat, sales of new passenger cars in the Russian Federation in 2022 decreased by 58.7%. “Given the current situation, the prospects for updating the fleet of vehicles raise concerns,” the report says.
that today a solid share of transport in Russia has been in operation for more than 15 years: of which 13 million are cars (the share in the segment is 25.6%), 2.7 million trucks (41.1%), 200 thousand buses (22 .9%) and 1.9 million motorcycles (80.6%). The authors of the report noted that in the future, road safety could be negatively affected by an increase in the service life of cars, the use of “less quality” (not original) spare parts for repairs, as well as an increase in the number of imported right-hand drive used cars.
< p>In the future, it is planned to improve transport links in the eastern part of the Russian Federation: the M-12 highway under construction will be extended to Yekaterinburg, and a number of roads with an increased accident rate are awaiting reconstruction.
