The London Irish players have finally been paid after current owner Mick Crossan stepped in to cover the club's financial obligations ahead of the sale to an American consortium, Telegraph Sport understands.
The players were told in a meeting on Thursday afternoon that all salaries would be paid, as well as health insurance, known as «Rugbycare», to ensure that their last game of the season against the Exeter Chiefs on Saturday could go ahead as planned.< /p>
«The players have been paid,» a source close to the talks told Telegraph Sport.
Another source said: «The players had a meeting and Mick Crossan stepped in to sort out last month's wages to give everyone a breather and let the game continue so that the players are not inconvenienced. They were also assured that the takeover process was ongoing and funds were being transferred.
The intervention, which comes six days after the club missed the April paycheck, also provides «breathing space». a deal to go through after the Rugby Players Association put pressure on the club to resolve the issue.
Clearly, Premiership Rugby also guarantees insurance coverage, being willing to provide funds to cover the premium, which reassured the players.< /p>
The players had «physical evidence» earlier in the day that the cover was in place before starting the game.
Declan Kidney, Director of the rugby club, confirmed on Thursday morning, that all club staff still have to receive their salary for April, with no guaranteed payment deadlines by the American consortium, which is in the process of buying the club.
