The launch date of the Chinese crossover under the Lada brand has become known

The FAW Bestune T77, which, as a result of badge engineering, turned into the Lada X-Cross 5 .

The Japanese company Nissan decided to leave the Russian car market last year, the deal to sell the local business to NAMI was completed in November. The list of assets that changed ownership included the Nissan Manufacturing Rus plant located in St. Petersburg. In the future, this site came under the control of AVTOVAZ, which promised to launch the production of new products of the Lada brand here. According to the plan, about 10 thousand copies will roll off this assembly line this year.

Now the date of the start of car production at the plant, which was renamed Lada St. Petersburg, has become known. According to TASS with reference to the President of AvtoVAZ, Maxim Sokolov, who spoke at the conference “Digital Industry of Industrial Russia”, the conveyor will be restarted on June 14. The Russian manufacturer noted that the production of the new Lada will be organized “with the participation of a partner”; The company did not specify which one, however, this is not a secret.

The Chinese state-owned auto concern FAW will act as a partner of AVTOVAZ: around mid-April, as part of a dealer conference in Sochi, the Russian manufacturer presented a crossover that will be named Lada X-Cross 5. In fact, this is the FAW Bestune T77, which will be sold in the Russian Federation with nameplates in

AvtoVAZ has not yet officially declassified the appearance of the X-Cross 5. According to the pictures leaked to the Web, the crossover, which will be produced at the St. jumper between the rear lights), as well as the presence of a nameplate with the name of the model on the fifth door.

By the way, Bestune T77 is currently available in Russia: the model entered the local market at the end of 2021. This model is offered with only one engine – a petrol 1.5-liter turbo engine that produces 160 hp. (its maximum torque is 258 Nm), it is paired with either a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed DCT automatic with two clutches. The drive of such a crossover is only front.

The original FAW Bestune T77 is 4525 mm long, 1845 mm wide, and 1615 mm high; the distance between the axles is 2700 mm. Trunk volume is 375 liters, and with the rear seats folded down, it grows to 1525 liters. This crossover has a McPherson-type front suspension, and a semi-independent rear suspension with a transverse torsion beam. It is worth noting that the “donor” for the Lada X-Cross 5 was the pre-styling FAW Bestune T77 (the model was updated at the home market at the end of last year).

According to Prime, AVTOVAZ is going to start production of new Lada models at enterprises in Tolyatti and Izhevsk in 2024, and also “with partners from China”; the names of the companies are again not specified. According to Maxim Sokolov, in the Samara region, the production of cars can be arranged at the Lada Zapad Togliatti plant, where the Chevrolet Niva SUV was previously produced together with the General Motors concern (now the model has been renamed Lada Niva Travel). This site was mothballed back in 2021.

It can be assumed that some X-Cross with other digital indices will become the next Lada novelties. It is possible that they will also be based on the FAW models. Recall that it was previously assumed that they would not intersect with the current model range of the Russian brand.
