Most new managers are in the black. Unless you come to the club during times of unrest, when the tenuous truce between fans and decision makers is broken, it is better to focus on the best scenario.
It is time for vivid tales of Johnny Newblock's incredible dedication, his relentlessly lofty standards and zero tolerance for seasonings. So it's not surprising and certainly not a crime for Tottenham Hotspur fans looking for good news about Ange Postecoglu. This is a winner, a representative of attacking football and, by all accounts, a brilliant guy. Unfortunately, there is one caveat: he achieved all this in Scotland.
Let's quickly handle the exception, and there are few exceptional ones. Sir Alex Ferguson did something that has never happened since, winning the title with a non-Old Firm team, as well as the European Cup Winners' Cup and the European Super Cup. Then he did well at Manchester United.
Needless to say, that was a long time ago. Since then, success in Scotland has rarely led to glory in England. Seven managers have gone on to success in the Premier League right after being in Scotland since 2000.

There were a few highlights, especially at the current club, Postecoglou. Brendan Rodgers moved from Celtic to Leicester, won the FA Cup and narrowly missed out on the Champions League twice before things turned sour this year.
Kenny Dalglish failed for 11 years with either Celtic or his second transfer to Liverpool. which included the League Cup. A sign of his achievement is that it looks like a footnote in his career. Martin O'Neill's tenure at Aston Villa, also post-Celtic, was a good year. It is important to note that all three have already distinguished themselves in England for Liverpool, Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers and Leicester, respectively.
Behind them the field was mixed. Jim Jeffries moved from the Hearts to Bradford in 2000 but was unable to save them from relegation. Paul Heckingbottom's next job after Hibs was as an assistant at Sheffield United, from where he was promoted after the sacking of Chris Wilder. That, too, ended in relegation, although he could still happily finish the top flight after promoting United this season under him.
Walter Smith operated at Everton under tight restrictions, and all he could do was finish three in the bottom of the half, which is somewhat of a disappointment after his 1990s heroics with the Rangers.
The biggest gap between a Scottish promise and a disappointment in the Premier League, and the most ominous example given his recent appearance, is Steven Gerrard. He led Rangers to their first title in a decade two years ago, at which point he seemed destined to make a pleasantly symmetrical move towards Liverpool. After spending time at Aston Villa and seeing what they've done since under Unai Emery, that dream may have vanished.
There were probably clues about Gerrard, whose team » Villas became much worse after the departure of Michael's assistant. Beal, a key figure in his success at Ibrox. Perhaps in three full seasons with the club, he should have won more than a single league title.
Postekoglou has no such shortcomings, but he faces the same problem as almost any new manager who comes to the Premier league, adapting to new conditions. from a small pond to shark-infested waters. Spurs fans looking for good omens may not find them in Scotland.
