Colombia defender Daniela Caracas told the Ireland women's team to “eat shit” and called them “little girls” after their World Cup friendly warm-up was called off after just 20 minutes because Ireland believes that the match has become “overly physical”.

Espanyol defender Caracas spoke in Spanish to Colombian fans when signing autographs in a clip posted online by fans outside of the Brisbane friendly match venue and the words “let them eat shit” can be heard referring to Ireland.

Responding to these specific comments, Republic of Ireland manager Vera Pau said she was “shocked” and said her players were “fearing for their bodies” due to the rough nature of the slip calls from early in the match.

Denise O'Sullivan of Ireland was taken to the hospital for a shin scan and results on Saturday showed she didn't have any fractures and now the World Cup debutants will have to wait to see if O'Sullivan can to play the first match of the World Cup on Thursday against Australia in Sydney.

Colombia vs Ireland has been postponed 20 minutes before the first lesson.

“It was something I had never experienced before in my 47 years of playing football, either as a player or as a coach,” Pau told Sky Sports. “The beginning was lively, good acting, normal, and then the atmosphere became overly physical.

“Then Denise was faced with a huge challenge, a challenge beyond the rules of the game, and she was in terrible pain. I went up to the Colombian coach and said: “I need your help, we need to calm down.” We all want to go to the World Cup.”

“The players were very upset and scared for themselves. We are not a team that is afraid of tackles or challenges. I took them away to calm them down, took them to a bench. We discussed this and we had contact with the President and CEO of the FAI.

“Together we knew this would no longer be right and if it continued we would put our players at potentially serious risk. situation. We had a calm conversation with the referee and they canceled the game.”

The Colombian Football Federation said on Friday evening that the match “was suspended because the Ireland national team, opponents in training this Friday, chose not to continue playing when 23 minutes of the first half have already elapsed.”

The statement added: “Although all processes and training of our teams are framed within the rules of the game, healthy competition and FairPlay, among other things, we respect the decision of our opposing team.
