Hans-Peter Moser, General Director of JSC MAZ Moskvich, became one of the main newsmakers of the Moscow International Automotive Forum IMAF, which was held today as part of MIMS exhibitions. A German top manager of a Russian enterprise called for no less than a return to the practices of the USSR and the introduction of centralized management of the automotive industry — otherwise, an effective business will not work in the current conditions.
Moskvich did not use MIMS as a platform for the premiere of new models, as did the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad, but on the other hand, it delivered a powerful business message, and gave a complete breakdown of the new products for the next two years.
Moskvitch 3
Recall that the Moscow Automobile Plant «Moskvich» was revived last year on the basis of the former Renault plant in the Pechatniki district of the capital. The first model of the Soviet brand that came back to life was a compact crossover with an index of 3, created by badge engineering from the Chinese JAC Sehol X4 (formerly JAC JS4). The large-scale assembly of Moskvich 3 began in November last year, the crossover is presented on the market both with a gasoline engine and as an electric vehicle (Moskvich 3e).

Moskvich 6 2/2In April, Moskvich announced the second model — a mid-size liftback with an index of 6, which is a slightly turned JAC Sehol Yao (overall length — 4780 mm, wheelbase — 2770 mm), that is, one of the varieties of the five-door JAC J7, which is also sold in Russia. This model will be assembled in Pechatniki immediately by the SKD method, bypassing the SKD stage. Moskvich 6 should appear at dealers next fall in four trim levels to choose from, the official presentation is ahead — follow the news on our website.
Announced in July, the Moskvich 5 crossover will be on the conveyor next year along with the Moskvich 8 and another model that does not yet have an index. All three novelties planned for 2024 will initially be produced in a full cycle, with welding and body painting. In 2025, another model will be launched in full cycle, which also does not yet have an index. Thus, by the end of 2025, the Moskvich product line will consist of six “numbered” models, each of which may have several modifications.
JAC Sehol X6
Moskvich 5 is also a compact crossover (overall length — 4505 mm, wheelbase — 2660 mm), but slightly larger than Moskvich 3 (overall length — 4410 mm, wheelbase — 2620 mm). The Moskvich 5 is based on the JAC Sehol X6, whose roots go back to the beginning of the last decade, when JAC was still actively copying the design of Hyundai models, so the profile of the Moskvich 5 will resemble the long-outdated Hyundai ix35, but the front, rear and interior will be quite modern .

What Moskvich 8 is, one can only guess, but, generally speaking, there are few options — it will either be a “draped” mid-size crossover JAC Sehol X7, which has already left our market JAC S7 (overall length — 4776 mm, wheelbase — 2750 mm ) or an even larger JAC Sehol X8 (overall length — 4815 mm, wheelbase — 2830 mm; it was not sold in the Russian Federation). There are simply no other suitable candidates for the JAC range, it is unlikely to be any minivan from the Refine line.Moskvich 3 on the assembly line
This year, the Moskvich plant will produce 27,000 cars instead of the originally planned 50,000, of which 22,900 are cars with internal combustion engines, 4,100 are electric cars. The plan for next year is 44,000 vehicles (40,000 «hydrocarbon» and 4,000 electric). It is not known when the plant will reach its peak capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year — this, according to Hans-Peter Moser, who took the helm of JSC MAZ Moskvich in June this year, will depend on the development of the industry as a whole.
< p>According to the German top manager, the deep localization of production, which the government of the Russian Federation is pushing through with various administrative and legislative measures, is expedient only for large circulations — from 100,000 cars a year. Large circulations do not fit well with the prohibitive prices for new cars for most Russians, but there is a way out in the form of unification of components between various domestic automakers, and ideally this unification should begin with the development of common platforms.
As an example of inter-brand unification, Mr. Moser cited the companies Chery and Geely, each of which makes the most extensive use of components and platforms common to subsidiaries, but their unification still takes place within one large holding company, while the head of Moskvich wants unification between different companies, namely between Moskvich, AvtoVAZ, GAZ, KAMAZ and UAZ.
There are few examples of intercorporate unification in world practice, the most obvious is the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, which has been in a management crisis since 2018, that is example is not the best. Another thing is that the above-mentioned Russian factories were born during the planned economy of the USSR, they, as they say, are no strangers to receiving CC from one source. It is clear, however, that in order to implement the concept proposed by Mr. Moser, the highest level of project management is needed. Where to get such a level today is not very clear — perhaps it is still easier to make cars cheaper?
