Tory chairman Greg Hands has called on Carole Vorderman to apologize for posting “defamatory and harmful” tweets about his involvement with a lifestyle firm that was awarded a contract for personal protective equipment (PPE) worth £25 £8 million. in 2020.
The former «Countdown» star has reportedly deleted several tweets about Mr. Hands and issued a new statement on Thursday on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying that «it was not his there were no violations.”
It comes after emails obtained by the Good Law Project show that Mr Hands was contacted via his personal email address by Mark Higton — former chairman of Hammersmith Conservatives on 7 April 2020 — with information about a contact offering PPE and ventilators before Chelsea and Fulham MP Mr Hands took the proposal to officials. Subsequently, Luxe Lifestyle entered into a contract for the supply of gowns and masks.
Now Mr Hands has written on the social media platform that he is “delighted” the tweets have been deleted and called on Vorderman to apologise.
Carol Vorderman wrote: “I have been contacted by MP Greg Hands. in response to my tweets about his involvement in securing a Covid-19 healthcare contract with Luxe Lifestyle in 2020.
“Whilst the award of this contract was unsuccessful and serious questions remain about the VIP Lane, I am pleased to accept Mr Hands' assurances that his role in this process was simply to convey the approach to JACT and that there were no improprieties on his part.»

Mr Hands shared an image of Vorderman's statement along with the message: “After a six-month campaign of smear & Today Carolwords finally retracted her accusations.
“She accused me of 'unlawful corruption' and rang a friend and said: 'Here's a nice little PPE contract worth £25.8m for you mate.' & my 'hands in the cookie jar'
'These tweets were defamatory and harmful.
'I'm glad she removed 22 false and defamatory tweets, videos and tweets today; more.
“Besides, JACT was not a “VIP lane” — it was an official government collection point for such proposals.
“Now she should apologize.”
