VW's US division has signed a contract for the import and distribution of French and Croatian brands involved in the development of sports cars.
The so-called niche brands Bugatti and Rimac have seen a lot of changes lately. Thus, in the spring of 2021, it became known that the French company Bugatti remains part of the German concern Volkswagen, but is coming under the control of Porsche. In the fall of the same year, information appeared about the completion of the merger of this manufacturer with the Croatian startup Rimac, as well as the creation of a joint venture. And in 2022, a “divorce” between Rimac and Hyundai was reported.
It has now become known that the American division of VW has signed a contract for the import and distribution of cars from the European brands Bugatti and Rimac. The agreement providing for a new direction was signed as part of the annual Monterey Car Week event, which took place last month.
It is worth noting that French hypercars are not new to the States, and, according to the head of Volkswagen's American office, Pablo DiCi, the import and sale of Croatian Rimac models as part of a new cooperation will allow the concern's dealers to provide customers with «even more variety» in the niche segment.< /p> In the photo: head of the American office of Volkswagen Pablo Di Si and CEO of Bugatti Rimac Mate Rimac
Bugatti Rimac CEO Mate Rimac explained that the agreement will enable “the new dealer network in the States to develop thanks to VW’s vast experience and the resources at the disposal of the concern.” This, he says, will allow Bugatti and Rimac to “combine the best of mass market sales with the individual, customer-focused features” that are the hallmark of both the French and Croatian marques.
According to Motor1.com, the Rimac brand has sent at least three examples of the Nevera to the United States. According to the company's technical director, Emilio Scervo, the manufacturer is now thinking about how to make future models lighter than current ones. Future sports cars should receive a number of improvements to increase body rigidity, and driver settings may also change.
The brand Bugatti also has a model that is currently under development. The manufacturer plans to introduce the car next year, and deliveries to begin in 2025. Probably, potential future owners have already gotten an idea of the future new product, while the rest of the details will be revealed closer to the debut.
Recall that last spring information appeared about the Bugatti Centodieci hypercar, which received a design based on the iconic Bugatti EB110 from the first half of the 90s. Under its hood is an 8.0-liter W16 engine with four turbochargers, producing a maximum of 1,600 hp. The company produced only ten copies of the model; the purchase of each such car cost no more than 8 million euros.
