Labour's lead has fallen to 10 points, according to a poll released on Saturday evening.
According to In the Opinium poll, Labor received 39 percent and the Conservatives 29 percent, down two percentage points for Sir Keir Starmer's party and up three percentage points for the Tories.
The five-point drop in Labor's leadership follows a series of major announcements from Rishi Sunak, starting with his decision to relax some net zero targets amid concerns about the cost of the policy for struggling households.
Poll conducted The Observer is likely to come as a relief to Downing Street as the Conservatives' annual conference begins in Manchester on Sunday.
Sir Keir remains the preferred candidate for Prime Minister, with 28 per cent of respondents favoring him over Mr Sunak. But 37 percent still do not choose any party leader.

This weekend the Prime Minister said: «I'm at a point where I want to set out the changes that I want to make this country different.»
On Saturday he told The Sun he would support motorists by restricting the use of LTNs and banning 20mph zones.
Mr Sunak said: “I got this job in less than than in a year, I think people will see my track record of cutting fuel duty as Chancellor by a record amount.
“Correct. That's my track record of supporting motorists.
“What we want to do now is make sure that all these reckless schemes are forced onto local communities, whether it's low-traffic areas or a 20-mile area. The hourly speed limit and all of this… needs to stop.
“We want to make sure that these things are not forced upon local communities, not forced upon them.”< /p>
