The French brand Citroen, part of the Stellantis corporation, has officially announced the premiere of the new Citroen C3 for the European market — it will take place on October 17. We tell you what is already known about the new product.
The new Citroen C3 with the factory index CC21 debuted last year as a budget cross-hatchback for emerging markets; at the beginning of this year, it had an electric version of the eC3 in India (a little later a hyphen was added to the name, now it’s e-C3), made quite clumsily and having very modest technical characteristics. The CC21 cross-hatchback is based on a simplified version of the modular CMP platform, and in Europe the third-generation SX/SY hatchback on the old PF1 platform is still sold in Europe; it has been produced since 2016 at the Stellantis plant in the Slovak city of Trnava along with the more recent Peugeot 208 second generation on the CMP platform.

It is curious that, despite the old platform, the current Citroen C3 is selling quite well: from January to August of this year, according to the JATO Dynamics agency, 99,939 units were sold in Europe. For comparison, let's say that the leader of the European B-class — the Dacia Sandero hatchback — during that time sold 154,538 units, Peugeot 208 — 135,187 units, Opel Corsa — 130,757 units, Renault Clio — 129,115 units, Toyota Yaris — 109,125 units, VW Polo — 84,112 units. In general, the “third” Citroen C3 could continue to be produced, but the European public demands an inexpensive electric car from the French brand, and now it is finally ready.

On October 17, the electric Citroen e-C3 will premiere, but “hydrocarbon” versions without the “e” prefix are also expected. According to the French newspaper Largus, the new European C3 will be technically related to the CC21 project for developing countries, but will, of course, receive richer equipment and a more refined design, it will be made in the spirit of last year's Citroen Oli concept convertible pickup truck. Let us remember that debuted on this concept. a new Citroen emblem, and the new European C3 will be its first production vehicle.

The new Citroen C3 for Europe will be made in the cross-hatchback format, but, as in emerging markets, it will not replace the subcompact crossover C3 Aircross, which will also soon change its generation in Europe. French colleagues report that the European Citroen e-C3 will be offered in two versions: the first will have a 60 kW (82 hp) electric motor and a 42 kWh battery, the second will have an 80 kW (109 hp) electric motor. ) and a battery with a capacity of 50 kWh. Lithium iron phosphate batteries for the Citroen e-C3 will be supplied by the Chinese company Svolt. The power reserve on one charge for the basic version will be at least 300 km. The production location will not change — Trnava.
European Citroen C3 of the outgoing third generation
The killer advantage of the Citroen e -C3 should have a price of about 23,000 euros in the basic configuration. Among full-fledged electric vehicles in Europe, only the Chinese-assembled Dacia Spring now has a lower price — from 22,750 euros in Germany, and, say, the electric Opel Corsa already costs from 34,650 euros. The Citroen e-C3 should be much more attractive in terms of design and modern in terms of safety systems than the Dacia Spring, which, by the way, sold 38,038 units in Europe in the first eight months of this year.
