On December 18, the Russian Auction House (RAH) will hold an auction on behalf of the Federal State Budgetary Institution National Scientific Center for Marine Biology named after. A.V. Zhirmunsky» Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Two Humboldt penguins are up for auction as a single lot — a female named Gossamer and a male named Om. Both individuals were born in December 2021, microchipped and have an international veterinary passport.
The starting price of the lot is 1.76 million rubles.
Under the terms of the auction, the buyer must have a valid license to carry out activities for keeping and using animals in zoos, dolphinariums, and oceanariums. In addition, a number of other requirements are put forward to the potential buyer, which can be found in the information message for the auction at the link.
Applications for participation in the auction are accepted until December 13 on the federal trading platform ETP RAD — Lot-online.
Primorsky Oceanarium is the only scientific institution in the country in which it regularly appears on light offspring of penguins of this species. Since 2018, 24 chicks have been born at the aquarium. The successful breeding of Humboldt penguins makes it possible for the Primorsky Aquarium to sell chicks to zoos and aquariums; for this, all the necessary documents and permits have been obtained.
“The peculiarity of this lot is that an already formed married couple of penguins is for sale, i.e. there is a high probability that in the future it will bear offspring. Of course, each potential buyer will undergo a thorough selection to meet all the requirements of the auction (availability of a valid license, technical means and equipment necessary for keeping penguins, etc.), so there is no need to worry about the fate of the penguins.
< p class="doc__text">RAD already has successful experience in selling “animate” lots. One of the latest examples is the auction for the sale of birds of prey (peregrine falcons, falcons, gyrfalcons), which took place as part of the Eastern Economic Forum in early September 2023. Then the auction was held with record results, many lots were sold at a price three or more times higher.
We are confident that our experience and competencies will allow the auction to be held with maximum efficiency,” says Dmitry Purikov, Director of the Far Eastern Branch of the RAD.
