Short-lived PM doesn't mention favorite for the nomination by name, but says: “I hope a republican will be back in 2024.”

Liz Truss, the shortest-serving prime minister in British history , which notably had a shorter shelf life than lettuce, actually endorsed Donald Trump in the US presidential election the following year.

Writing in the Wall Street Journal, Truss, who spent just 49 days at 10 Downing Street before her own Conservative Party kicked her out of the country mainly for plunging the UK economy into crisis, said she wanted to ensure that the next president is a Republican.

Trump currently has a huge lead in the polls to become the Republican nominee in next year's election, despite the fact that he is facing 91 criminal charges, including for attempting to overturn his 2020 loss to Joe. Biden.

In an article titled “The World Needs American Leadership Again,” Truss cited Ronald Reagan and the end of the Cold War.

“The world would benefit from more of this kind of American leadership today,” wrote Trace. “I hope a Republican returns to the White House in 2024. There must be a conservative leadership in the United States that is once again bold enough to call hostile regimes evil and a threat.”

Truss did not name Trump in her column but has previously praised him, calling him “very good” and “very good.” Trump, in turn, said he thought “very highly” of Truss.

Truss's article was published during her visit to Washington with conservative friends of Ukraine. Saying the West was “satisfied with the defeat of our communist enemies”, Truss – also a former British foreign secretary – described threats from China, Iran and Russia.

Although she did so without mentioning Biden and seemed to implicitly criticize him, she made the case for the need to “ensure complete victory for Ukraine and the defeat of the Russian occupiers,” a goal that Biden has pursued—and that many far-right Republicans have indeed opposed.

< p class="dcr-1kas69x">Truss also expressed regret over the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan, which was carried out under Biden but agreed to under Trump.

Earlier this year, Truss visited Washington to be honored by the Heritage Foundation, a far-right group helping plan Trump's second term. If elected, Trump spoke of trying to consolidate conservative power in key institutions and attack his political enemies.

Truss was unceremoniously removed from office after the mini-premiere was announced. a budget that was coupled with promises of huge spending and tax cuts and was blamed for economic chaos, leading to soaring mortgage costs and a sharp fall in the pound.

Daily Star newspaper livestreamed showing a salad and asking if it would go bad before she lost office.

After Truss' comments supporting a Republican victory in 2024, Tom Walker, a comedian who performs in role of reporter Jonathan Pye wrote online: “Liz Truss has apparently endorsed Trump. Well, now he’s almost certainly back.

“Now, if he can also put on some salad…”
