The Japanese company explained that Toyota will help in implementing the projects: we are talking, in particular, about the use of jointly developed software.
Mazda presented its updated medium-term development plan back in November 2022. Then it became clear that the Japanese manufacturer intends to accelerate the electrification of its lineup, although the specific number of electric vehicles and hybrids that the company plans to release in the coming years was not indicated. The strategy notes that the target share of electric trains in the sales structure by 2030 should vary from 25 to 40% (in the previous version the figure was limited to 25%).

As Kolesa.ru previously reported, Mazda plans to become a completely carbon-neutral company by 2050, with all of its plants expected to become carbon neutral as early as 2035. In 2022, it was assumed that the mass entry of electric vehicles of the Japanese brand into the world market, according to the plan, would begin after 2028. Now it has become known that the brand intends to release seven or eight new “green” models, and they should appear by the beginning of the next decade.
The brand's plans to produce up to eight electric vehicles by 2030 are reported by Automotive News, citing Mazda CEO Masahiro Moro. It is worth noting that compared to a number of other automakers, Mazda’s plans can be called “modest.” The company explained that the current strategy is due to “uncertainty in demand for electric vehicles.” Let us remind you that the Volkswagen concern has already faced the consequences of insufficiently high demand for electric vehicles, which previously had to shut down factories.
It is reported that the development and sale of future Mazda electric vehicles will be carried out through the new e-Mazda division. The agency also noted that the new products will be based on some new modular platform; there are no details about this “trolley” yet.
It is expected that the brand's first electric car will go on sale somewhere between 2025-2027. According to Automotive News, Mazda's «green» line will be opened by crossovers, which will have both versions with a single electric motor and with a dual-motor power plant. It is possible that among the announced seven or eight new products there will be an all-electric new Mazda 6.

According to Masahiro Moro, electric cars will initially be produced at the company’s plant in Hofu (Japan), but later (probably from 2028) their production may begin in the United States. It is expected that Toyota will become Mazda's partner in the project to develop electric vehicles: we are talking, in particular, about the use of jointly developed software.
One of the main markets for the Japanese brand is the States. Last summer it became known that the only electric car in the brand’s local lineup would leave the United States. The Mazda MX-30 EV will end its American career once all 2023 model year cars are sold out. It is worth noting that the SUV was not popular here: in 2022, Mazda dealers sold only 324 copies.
