The first minivan of the Chinese electric vehicle startup Xpeng will go on sale in the home market on January 1. Xpeng X9 has a striking angular design, a 2+2+3 landing formula and a fully controlled landing gear. Xpeng expects the X9 to become the best-selling model in the large electric minivan class in the Chinese market.
The Xpeng company announced the X9 minivan in the spring of this year, its official premiere took place in November at the Guangzhou Motor Show, pre-orders began at the same time, and today the company announced that full sales of the Xpeng X9 in China will begin on January 1. You shouldn’t be surprised by the choice of date; China celebrates the New Year later than the Western world (2024 will begin in China on February 10), so on January 1, well-rested and sober Chinese consumers will be able to start buying a cool minivan from Xpeng.

The Xpeng X9 is based on the latest SEPA 2.0 platform with 800-volt electrical architecture. The suspension is adaptive pneumatic, the front is on double wishbones, the rear is multi-link. The rear wheels can turn up to 5 degrees in any direction, making the bulky minivan very maneuverable, with a turning circle of 10.8 m.
Overall length of Xpeng X9 is 5293 mm, width is 1988 mm, height is 1785 mm, wheelbase is 3160 mm. Thanks to large-unit stamping, the torsional rigidity of the body is 46,000 Nm/deg — this is slightly more than that of its main competitor, the electric minivan Li Mega (44,000 Nm/deg), but Li Mega has a more streamlined body: cx of Li Mega is 0.215, Xpeng X9 has 0.227.
In its style, the X9 minivan is noticeably different from previous Xpeng models: rounded shapes are replaced by straight lines and zigzags, the tailgate glass has a rather strong slope, which is not typical for minivans. At the same time, the salon is deliberately cozy, there are no sharp corners in its design, the finishing materials reproduce the atmosphere of an expensive living room. There are two hatches cut into the roof, and the cross member between them hides a “TV” for passengers in the second and third rows. The inner perimeter of the roof is outlined by a ring LED chandelier.

The most advantageous places in the Xpeng X9 are in the second row — these are two individual chair-beds with many adjustments and retractable leg rests. The gallery is a three-seater, it folds and unfolds in a fully automatic mode. The maximum useful cargo capacity of the body is 2554 l.

The dual-motor all-wheel drive version has an electric motor with a power of 235 kW (319.5 hp) on the front axle, and a 135 kW (183.5 hp) motor on the rear axle, for a total of 370 kW (503 hp). The all-wheel drive minivan has only a 101.5 kWh battery; its full charge is enough for 640 km of range on the CLTC cycle.
The maximum speed of all versions is limited to 200 km/h. Curb weight — 2555-2630 kg, depending on modification.

We would like to add that Xpeng is one of the ten most promising and fast-growing young Chinese automobile manufacturers companies. This week, Volkswagen acquired a 4.99% stake in Xpeng and intends to use the Xpeng platform for its new models.
