PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, January 1 The Klyuchevskoy volcano in Kamchatka, the tallest active giant in Eurasia, emitted a six-kilometer column of ash, reports the Kamchatka Volcanic Response Team eruptions (KVERT) Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
“»The Klyuchevskoy volcano in Kamchatka threw ash 6 kilometers above sea level. The ash plume stretched 110 kilometers to the west-northwest of the volcano,» the report says.
On the path of the cloud's spread there are settlements in the Tigilsky district and the village of Maiskoye in the Ust-Kamchatka district, where a small amount of ash may fall. When the wind direction changes, a small amount of ash cannot be ruled out in populated areas of the Ust-Kamchatsky, Bystrinsky districts and Milkovsky district.
Since December 27, 2023, a new explosive eruption of the Klyuchevsky volcano of the Strombolian type has been observed. The previous powerful paroxysmal eruption of Klyuchevsky volcano lasted from June 23 to November 1, 2023 and ended with a large emission of ash to a height of 14 kilometers above sea level. Ash particles flew in the air for several thousand kilometers and fell in Scandinavia.
