KRASNODAR, January 10 A therapist at the Central Regional Hospital of the Krasnoarmeysky district of Kuban, during whose shift an elderly patient was tied to a hospital bed, was suspended from work as part of an internal audit, the chief said hospital doctor Andrey Bobrov.
Earlier, a video message from the grandson of a pensioner was distributed on social networks, who said that his elderly grandfather was brought to the Krasnoarmeyskaya Central District Hospital with suspected pneumonia and was placed in the therapeutic department of the hospital. A few days later, the patient’s relatives received a call from his roommate and told them about the man’s abuse. Footage taken at the hospital shows the patient lying in only a shirt and diapers, his arm and legs tied to the bed with pieces of a sheet.
The prosecutor's office began an investigation. The materials were sent to the Investigative Committee to resolve the issue of initiating a criminal case, the regional supervisory agency said.
«I consider myself obligated to apologize to the patient himself and his family. The shift doctor has already been removed from duty. An internal audit is being carried out at the institution. Not only medical workers, but also patients of neighboring wards have been interviewed therapeutic department. Once again I apologize. Based on the results of the inspection, exceptional measures will be taken,» Bobrov said.
He added that the patient is currently receiving full treatment.
