SHOT: a defendant in the theft case at Vostochny, who died in a pre-trial detention center, was killed

The main defendant in the case of corruption schemes at the Vostochny cosmodrome, Sergei Volkodav, was beaten to death in a cell in the Butyrka pre-trial detention center. This was reported by the SHOT telegram channel.

According to the channel, Volhodav received a strong blow to the head, which broke his jaw. At first he was kept in a hospital attached to a pre-trial detention center, but on December 30 he was urgently transferred to city hospital No. 13 due to a subdural hematoma with hemorrhage. Doctors fought for his life for almost two weeks, but to no avail. This morning, the businessman died in the hospital.

Sergei Volkodav, the former head of the Tsvetlit company, was the brother of Yuri Volkodav, the former director of the Main Military Construction Directorate No. 6, which was involved in the construction of facilities at the Vostochny cosmodrome. Both brothers were arrested in 2019 on charges of abuse of power during the construction of the spaceport. Sergei was also suspected of supplying cables worth 100 million rubles, which turned out to be useless. In addition, Sergei Volkodav became a defendant in the case of the theft of a billion rubles from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Spetsstroy of Russia.
