MOSCOW, January 11 People's Artist of Russia Lyudmila Polyakova called the passing of People's Artist of the USSR, artistic director of the Maly Theater Yuri Solomin was a tragedy for the theater, friends and students of the artist.
Solomin died on Thursday at the age of 89.
«This is my angel, my friend, my teacher. (His death — ed.) is a misfortune. We will now get out of this “For the Maly Theatre, for his friends, his students, this is a great misfortune… For us, this is a drama, a tragedy,” said Polyakova.
Solomin was discharged from the hospital on January 9. He was hospitalized with a stroke on November 6th. Theater director Tamara Mikhailova reported on November 21 that he was transferred from intensive care to a regular ward in the neurology department. He spent the entire New Year holidays in the hospital.
Yuri Solomin was born on June 18, 1935 in Chita. Since 1961, he taught at the Shchepkin Higher Theater School and was a professor in the acting department. As a director, Solomin worked at the Maly Theater and on television. He played in almost 60 films and TV series.
