Bad weather caused the delay of about 20 flights at Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport on Monday. As RIA Novosti reports with reference to the air port's press service, the reason was unfavorable weather conditions caused by a powerful cyclone. Visibility in the region is less than 500 meters due to snowstorm.
Among the delayed destinations are flights arriving from Moscow, Khabarovsk and departures to Shakhtersk, Okha, Khabarovsk and Moscow. The plane, flying from Novosibirsk to Sakhalin, was redirected to an alternate airfield in Khabarovsk.
Rescue workers previously announced an emergency warning for January 15 for eight municipalities in southern Sakhalin. Currently in this part of the island there is a blizzard, snowfall, and a stormy wind is blowing.
