    Fans of Solomin bring flowers to his portrait at the Maly Theater

    MOSCOW, January 12 At the Maly Theater, flowers are being laid at the portrait of People's Artist of the USSR Yuri Solomin, the correspondent reports.
    Solomin died on Thursday at the age of 88. Farewell to him will be held at the Maly Theater on January 15, after which the artist will be buried at Troekurovskoye Cemetery in Moscow.

    On Friday the theater is open from 11 o'clock for those who want to honor the memory of the artist. The mirrors in the building are covered with a dark veil. Visitors bring roses and carnations to Solomin’s portrait and leave condolences in a special journal.

    “It was very sad, of course, to learn such news yesterday, but I thought it was necessary to come and at least somehow celebrate and honor the memory of Yuri Solomin. Because it is impossible to somehow overestimate his role in the development of the Maly Theater. He is very did a lot for the Maly Theater,” noted one of the artist’s fans.
    Yuri Solomin was born on June 18, 1935. Soviet and Russian actor and theater and film director, theater teacher. Since 1988 – artistic director of the State Academic Maly Theater of Russia. People's Artist of the USSR. In 1957, after graduating from the Shchepkin Higher Theater School, he was accepted into the Maly Theater. Among the roles played by the actor on stage are Khlestakov in Gogol's “The Inspector General”, Fedya Protasov in Leo Tolstoy's “The Living Corpse”, Voinitsky in Anton Chekhov's “Uncle Vanya”, Cyrano de Bergerac based on the play by Edmond Rostand and Tsar Fyodor in the tragedy. Since 1980 he has worked in the theater and as a director.
